You will need to remove the carb and check the Chock post and flaps. I would imagine one of these items are broken on the carb.

If you need a new carb you can purchase it here:
http://www.generatorguru.com/carb-carburetor-10415/

Alternatively, it could be the Chock Assembly. It will be obvious when you remove the carb. http://www.generatorguru.com/choke-assembly-12195/

All other parts are available on this page: http://www.generatorguru.com/gg7200cl-gg7200cle/

Hope this helps! :)

Its absolutely the gas. Get all the old gas you can out of it and fill with fresh gas along with the recommended amount of conditioner such as Seafoam.

My generator Jetman gg7200e idles uneven it accelerates and decelerates all the time unless i keep the choke nearly closed

That kind of surging usually happens when you are running out of gas. Is the fuel tank full and is it getting enough fuel to the carb when it needs it?

My 4 year old Craftsman 10.0 HP Genter OHV 5600 Watt 8600 Surge Power generator starts and runs good in the choke position, however when you try to take it from choke to run, it dies. Will it do any damage...

Not that i am aware of, however, I suspect that as soon as you load it up it will die again as the load will call for greater speed, and too much fuel from the choke position will cause it to die again.

What I suspect is that your carburator is clogged up at the jets and is not metering the air fuel mxture properly. You may have to disassemble the carburator and clean it. Since the government has mandated that gasoline contain 10% alcohol, it has become a night mare for small engines that are not used very often. The alcohol is very hydroscopic (retains water) and during the off use period, the alcohol evaporates and leaves the water behind to mix with gunk and clog the needle valves.

Try removing the old gasoline. Refill the machine with fresh gasoline and add some "SeaFoam" (an additive) or any other brand additive that will help disolve the built up gunk in the carburator. Remove the air cleaner and try spraying a carburator cleaner down in the air intake while the machine is running, this way the air passages may clear while the new gasoline may dislodge the built up gunk. Note: The carb cleaner will stall the engine.

It is probably wise to run the gas tank dry before storage and only fill when the machine will be used. Stabil is an additive for storage, and it did it's job before the alcohol edict. I am not sure that Stabil will allow long time storage. (more than 3 months) SeaFoam can be purchased at WalMart, stabil is on the shelf of most small engine sales rooms such as Sears.

What's the best choke setting for starting a cold generator

Full choke to start, open choke partially immediately the engine starts to where the motor runs smoothly, continue opening as soon as you can while keeping the engine running smoothly. Be sure to open fully before leaving the unit, running it with the choke partially on can cause a rich fuel condition which tends to wash the oil off the cylinder walls and it also dilutes the oil with gasoline.

How to start a gas generator (should the choke be in or out, to the right or the left before starting

Most Generac generators have a lever for the choke that pulls out. So if the generator is being started for the first use or cold you should choke when starting . Let it run for 30-45 sec. then push it in . Once the engine has been run or warm you dont need to choke every time when starting .

Before starting the genset remove the air filter and check the throttle plate on the carberator, it should be closed. If it is opened, then you choke coil is worn out and needs to be replaced.

Is this an RV generator?

If you have to really choke an LP engine but it runs more or less normally once started you need to troubleshoot the demand regulator and the fuel supply lines (look for air leaks). I'd also check the fuel inlet pressure before the demand regulator.
