update: Well, we ended up calling the repair man and we had a bad Y-sustain board and also a bad Z-sustain board. According to the guy who fixed it, it was due to over use of the TV and using main power button instead of shutting off through the cable remote. 650.00 later and a few weeks later, we now have a fixed plasma. No real suggestions on how to get more life out of the new boards.

SOURCE: Audio comes on but not video.
unfortunately, i have the same problem but i found out that it's natural for the flat panel's to do that especially if you are using the hdmi input... wait 10secs b4 turning it on again.. it's bc if using the hdmi input, it takes a sec to change it's signal over and sometimes it blanks out and only audio comes in..
if you still have a warranty on it, contact them to confirm it's not something else going on.. my cable guy helped me with that ? and more since we are new to flat panels.. i hope this helps..

so you can choose 16:9 which is what you want correct? When you choose it on the tv, it resets after turning off correct? or does it have a black bar around the picture?
So if you set both to 16:9, then both change back or just the cable box?

I can't say that this is the problem, but the behavior is that of a failing solder joint in the power supply; these tend to be intermittant and random.
Most semiconductors just flat die under the right conditions but it is possible for a power semi to fail internally exhibiting just the same behavior.
Since both audio & video are down together, I would check the main power supply first.
Yours may be separate from the lower level electronics and user replaceable. You won't hurt anything if you pull the AC plug overnight, remove the back panel and look inside to see if you have a separate board with larger components on it; cylindrical ones (capacitors) and largish blocks (transformers & chokes). If you find this, check for a part number or have the set's model number handy and call the mfr.s service to ask about repair or replacement costs. You can ask them too, if my diagnosis sounds right to them.

Testimonial: "The information was helpful but I could not see if there was a bad solder Joint in the power supply. The TV worked well after that incident. "

Hi my name is Roety,
I can help you with your issue ,
Why don't you simply run the cable box and DVD stereo outputs direct to the receiver. Thats what most people do. TVs do not passthrough stereo signal very well do to DHCP compliance requirements .
