I would suspect that the motor was overheated, are the filters clean and not clogged in any way.

Rotary brush head will turn but no vacuum

Hi Betsy, it's Jack at Dyson.

The suction motor on most Dyson vacuums will be protected by a thermostat which shuts off the motor for protection if it starts to overheat. This could be due to a blockage, and the filter(s) may also be overdue for a wash. If this occurs, you may find the separate motor which powers the brush bar will continue to run, but the suction motor will not.

The thermostat should reset itself after your machine has been allowed to cool down for a couple of hours. However to prevent this from happening again, we would recommend checking for and clearing any blockages, and washing the filter(s). If you visit http://www.dyson.com/support and select your machine from the list, our troubleshooting guides will walk you through each step.

If it's been over 24 hours since your machine stopped working and it still won't run, just give our experts a call so we can provide further assistance. You can reach the Dyson Customer Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU). Our experts will be able to talk you through some simple troubleshooting checks to determine the case of the issue. And if a repair or a replacement part is needed, they'll also be able to confirm if this covered under your Dyson warranty.

I have Dyson 21 model. The brush for carpets stops frequently, completely loosing suction motion, I try to restart every time, but after a few times I won't be able to restart again. Otherwise it work

Hi Maryna, it's Jack at Dyson.

Like most Dyson vacuums, DC21's Motorhead floor tool is engineered to shut off for protection if something jams it. This can usually be reset after checking the cleaner head for obstructions, and removing any threads or hair from the brush bar and endcaps. Please follow the steps shown in the video below:

If you'd like further advice after giving this a try, our experts are on hand to help. You can reach us by calling the Dyson Customer Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

My dc40 du son shut down. I took apart and cleaned everywhere I could. The brushes work but motor for vac won't start

Hi Rusty, it's Jack at Dyson.

Like most Dyson vacuums, DC40 is engineered to shut off for protection if it starts to overheat, and from your description it sounds like this has happened. This will often be due to a blockage, or because the filters are overdue for a wash.

The machine should reset automatically after it's been allowed to cool down for at least 2 hours. But to prevent it happening again, we would recommend running through each of the following simple checks:

In normal use we recommend washing both of DC40's filters at least once a month, using cold water without detergent. Allow at least 24 hours for both filters to dry completely before replacing them.

I'm confident that this will resolve the issue. However, our experts are on hand to help if you have any further difficulties - you can reach us by calling 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

My dyson dc07 wont turn on

Hi Mike, it's Jack at Dyson.

If your DC07 shut off while you were using it, and now will not turn on again, it may have overheated. Most Dyson vacuums are equipped with a thermostat which will shut them off for protection if they begin to overheat. This can often be due to a blockage, or because the filter needs a wash.

However, if it's been over 24 hours and the vacuum still won't run, it's likely there's a fault elsewhere. We'd be happy to help you check for this - you'd just need to give our experts a call on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

Dyson dc07 is getting really hot but is NOT cutting out

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

It's normal for a vacuum cleaner's exhaust air and casing to become warm in use, due to the heat created by the motor when it's running. Dyson vacuums are equipped with a thermal cutout device, and this will shut the vacuum down if it starts to overheat.

It's worth checking your machine for blockages, and giving the pre-filter a wash - we recommend doing this at least once every 3-6 months as shown in the video attached. Use cold water without detergent, and allow at least 12 hours for both parts of the filter to dry completely before replacing them.

As long as your DC07 is picking up as normal and isn't making an unusual noise or smell in use, there shouldn't be an issue. But if you're concerned, you're welcome to reach out to our experts for further advice. You can reach us by calling 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

Brush bar won't spin. Both filters have been cleaned ,all hoses checked for blockages, brush bar removed for cleaning

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC25 doesn't use a conventional, user-replaceable belt. Instead it it uses a belt engineered to last the lifetime of the vacuum in normal use, protected by a sensor which shuts off the brush bar if something jams it.

Normally, checking the cleaner head for obstructions and removing any threads or hair from the brush bar and endcap will allow you to reset your machine:

However if you've already followed each of the steps shown in our video guide without success, you may need a replacement cleaner head or a repair of your machine. If you can contact us directly we should be able to arrange this for you, and can also confirm if this is covered under your Dyson warranty.

When you have your DC25 easily to hand, please get in touch with the Dyson Customer Helpline so we can help determine if a repair or replacement part is needed. You can reach us by calling 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

We'll look forward to speaking with you.

Dyson dc40 motor not working, only brush turns

Hi Elsa, it's Jack at Dyson.

Like most Dyson vacuums, DC40 has a thermal cutout which will shut off the machine if it begins to overheat. This can often be due to a blockage, or because the filters need a wash.

Your machine should reset itself automatically after it's had a few hours to call down. However, to prevent any damage to your machine we'd recommend using our online Support guide to check for any blockages you may have missed: http://www.dyson.com/support/dc40/dc40-multi-floor/my-machine-is-not-working/machine-not-sucking-up-well/both-checks-checking-wand-and-hose-step-1

In normal use we recommend washing both filters at least once a month, using cold water without detergent as shown in the video attached. Allow at least 24 hours for the filters to dry completely before replacing them - it can help to place them by a radiator, or inside an airing cupboard.

If you'd like some further help after you've given this a try, you're welcome to contact our experts directly. You can reach us by calling 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US) or 1-877-397-6622 (CA).

Reset dyson dc11 overload cut off

Hi there,

If your DC11 shut itself off during use, it may have overheated - you should find that it will run again after it's had at least 2 hours to cool down.

Although I note you've already checked for blockages, you may want to run through the steps shown in our online Support guide to make sure you haven't missed anything:

http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=347&product=DC11-SY-ALLERGY

The filter may also need a wash. In normal use, this should be done at least once every 3-6 months, as shown in the video below. Use cold water without detergent, and allow at least 12 hours for the filter to dry completely somewhere warm before replacing it.

Following these steps shown should prevent the issue from reoccurring. If you'd like any further assistance or advice, please call us free on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1-866-693-9766 (US).

Best wishes,

Working well, switched off, moved downstairs, wouldn't restart- no power. leads and fuse checked with no problems?

Hi there,

Sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC14 All Floors. Like most Dyson cleaners, your DC14 is equipped with a safety device which shuts off the cleaner if it starts to overheat. This is often due to a blockage, or because the filter needs a wash. The easiest way to check for and remove any blockages is to follow the steps shown in our online guide:

http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=626&product=DC14-ALLFLOORS_US

The correct way to wash the filter is shown in the video linked below. The filter should be washed in cold water without any detergent, at least once every 3-6 months. Always ensure it's totally dry before replacing it - this may take up to 12 hours.

http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=1461&product=DC14-ALLFLOORS_US

By clearing any obstructions and washing the filter, you should be able to resolve your issue without further assistance. However, if you've followed these steps and are still concerned, it's probably best if you get in touch with us directly. You can call us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US). One of our experts will be happy to run through some troubleshooting over the phone with you and recommend the best course of action.

Kind regards,

Jack
