SOURCE: How do I program the

You need to program the timer so it turns on-off at specified times.

But first we need to identify your timer for sure.
Have a look at link below.
http://waterheatertimer.org/Woods-timers-and-manuals.html#59203
If your timer does not show, then add a comment with description of timer.
I have extensive files on timers.

Intermatic DT300, GE 15091, and Woods 59203 are the same timer.

Here are instructions for Woods 59203:
Plug timer in until battery is recharged.
If display will not show, then timer battery needs to be plugged into outlet for 1 hour until internal battery is recharged, or timer is bad, or electric circuit is tripped off, or electric circuit heeds to be tested with circuit analyzer.

Once display shows, then unplug timer for programming.
Set current time:
Press and hold CLOCK button.
Press HOUR and MINUTE to set correct time with am and pm.
Press Day button to set current day.
Release clock button.

Program timer:
Press PROGRAM button until "1 ON" displays. This is program1 ON.
Press MINUTE and HOUR buttons to set ON time for program1
Press DAY button to choose day or group of days for program1 ON

Press PROGRAM button until "1 OFF" displays. This is program1 OFF
Press MINUTE and HOUR buttons to set OFF time for program1
Press DAY button to choose day or group of days for program1 OFF

Press PROGRAM button until "2 ON" displays. This is program2 ON.
Repeat steps above to set ON and OFF time for 5 programs.

When programming is completed, press CLOCK button to exit programming.
Press ON/AUTO/OFF button until Auto displays.

Make sure lamp is turned on.
Make sure bulb is good.

If instructions don't fit your timer, then add a comment with model number or full description and I'll post those instructions.
Also you can take advantage of Fixya phone service where expert speaks with you over the phone for a price.

SOURCE: SunSmart 15312 - timer has

Sun Smart is new GE timer.
http://waterheatertimer.org/GE-timers-and-manuals.html#15312

There is no repair for defective timer, except buy another at Home Depot and return defect in new package.
When I bought 15312 timer for testing, I found many packages at Home Depot were taped together as if people returned the timer. The large aluminum fin shows that timer is expected to get warm.
When testing the timer, the door stuck, and the timer seemed cheaply made. Intermatic brand timers are more robust at this time.
The instruction manual is not clearly written as could be, and timer requires a lot of button pushes for each setting.

Because the instruction manual is complex, requiring multiple button pushes for each setting, I suggest writing out the steps to make sure nothing is skipped over.

If lights turn on-off with override, then timer should be wired correctly.
Be sure to reset timer before programming.
Press setup button twice to begin programming.
Check programming for conflicts and overlaps that will cause timer not to function as expected.
For example selecting days of week. If program1 ON says turn on at 7:00 pm all days of week, and program1 OFF says off at 9:00 pm Tuesday.
Another point of confusion is Dawn-Dusk-Time. If you want timer to turn ON at 7:00, then select Time.

I am looking for timer instructions for a Defiant brand outdoor heavy duty digital timer. Has option for three plugs at the bottom. I do not know model number. I can't figure out these "modes"!!!

a mode is a operation program in the computer
for example mode 1 is timer time
mode 2 is set adjusted time
mode 3 no of sprinklers on mode 4 set
mode 5 etc
the mode is used to move from one program to another and once a change is made in that setting the mode button then saves that setting
all of this would be explained in the operators manual

Setting the clock on a brinks timer 44-1011

I finally found the instructions for the Brinks timer 44-1011 and they work.
    • BRINKS DIGITAL TIMER 44-1011 INSTRUCTIONS

    • 2*Press +/MANUAL or - to select the hour. Press OK to confirm.
    • 3*Minute display will now flash. Press +/MANUAL or - to select the minute. Press OK to confirm.
    • 4*Press MENU to exit the time setting mode. Now the timer is in clock mode.
    • PROGRAM SETTING NOTE: This timer can be set up for up to 2 different programs. We will use PROG 1 for this example, however these steps can be repeated for any of the 2 programs. To cycle through the individual programs use the +/MANUAL or - after pressing MENU in step one until the desired PROG "#" is flashing. To clear a program setting hit the RECALL button when you have the program selected.

    • 2*Turn on DLST, the below of LCD shows +1H. Time is adjusted by adding one hour.
    • 3*Turn off DLST, +1H will disappear and LCD shows the real time. MANUAL OVERRIDE AND ALWAYS ON/OFF When in clock mode the +/MANUAL sign cycles through
    • 4 settings that serve as manual override. **ON - Indicates that the timer is in the ON mode, and will always be on regardless of the programmed setting. **AUTO ON - At this selection, the timer will come on regardless of the programmed setting, but it will follow the next programmed command. **OFF - Indicates that the timer is always off (i.e. the wall socket is turned off) **AUTO OFF - Indicates that the timer is in the OFF mode until the next programmed step that turns it ON.
    • NOTE: For normal timer function, the selection must be either "AUTO ON" or "AUTO OFF". RESET At any mode, press RESET for 5 seconds. All settings will be cleared, return to clock mode, 12:00 MO, AM, AUTO OFF will be shown on LCD
I hope this is helpful. It was a bear to find.

Radio Shack 63-891 Electronic Timer: Seems I'm able to program the time at which timer turns the power on. How do you program the time at which the power goes OFF? Thanks for any help you can...

The timer has 8 programs that will run. This will give 4 ON/OFF cycles if all are used. Set program 1 as the ON time, program 2 as the OFF time. Use each odd program # as the ON time and each even program # as the off time. Do this in PROGRAM mode then switch to RUN with the upper switch set to TIMER to actually start the program running. ON will turn it ON during the OFF cycle and OFF will turn it OFF during the ON cycle.
