I have a Yard Man self propelled push mower the pull rope broke I replaced the rope but now it won't recoil . Please help me find out what is wrong. Thx.

OK first remove recoil unit off motor, Whats the pull start.
Next pull the rope all the way out.Watch the direction the rope pulling is turning. When the rope is pulled as far it can be put something in to hold pulley where it is. Cut off rope knot and remove rope. Then hold pulley remove what is holding it from moving then continue turning rope pulley in same direction until it stops. Then turn opposite way to line up hole in pulley and hole in metal shield and block. Then slide rope through holes and tie knot tight. Release pulley slowly and rope is going to retract just like new...

MTD Yard Machine Model # 11A-084E029 Need help putting the pull cord assembly (coil, etc) back together. Standard repair books don't give enough detail. My pull cord broke, I bought just the cord, took...

Remove the recoil assembly from the mower, there are 3 machine screws.
Remove the old rope and get matching cord, make sure you get the correct diameter, usually 3/16 or 1/4 inch, and type, I believe it should be nylon braided. Do not cut the new cord.
Use a match to light the end of the cord and once it ignites, use an old rag to pull and form the end into a point.
Notice which way the pulley in the starter assembly rotates and hand spin it in that direction until it is fairly tight. Once it is tight, rotate it into a position such that you can push the pointed end of the cord from the outside into the hole in the housing of the starter and directly into the hole on the inner pulley. Tie a tight knot in the end of the rope inside the pulley.
Remove the clamp and let the rope get rewound on the pulley. Cut the cord, point this end and run it into the handle and knot it.

Need to replace starter cord on Tecumseh LV195EA engine for walk behind lawn mower

This is an easy one. You need a #2 phillips screwdriver, a 1/4" nutdriver or socket, a 5/16" nutdriver or socket, 84" of #4.5 braided nylon rope, scissors and a lighter or flame of some kind.

1. With the #2 phillips screwdriver, remove the 2 screws that hold the green plastic cover to the top of the engine. This is just a decorative cover.
2. With the 5/16 nutdriver, remove the 3 screws in the top of the fuel tank. Lift the tank straight up about 3/4" and then just lay it back on the rear of the mower deck.
3. The round black object on top of the motor is the starter houseing. You will find it being held on with 2 screws from the side. The 1/4 nutdriver should fit these. Remove them, and note the position of each screw and the position of the starter top. It might help to put some colored tape on the starter top and on the upper engine shroud to make sure you put it back in the same position. The starter top will come off by lifting it straight up.
4. Remove what is left of the old rope.
5. carefully wind the inner pulley (the same direction the rope will pull it) until it is tight. Then let it rotate back a little until the rope hole in the pulley lines up with the rope hole in the starter top. Use your screwdriver to hold these in place by putting it through the pulley and starter top vent holes.
6. Measure your rope out to 84inches and then cut it. Take the lighter and melt the ends of the rope to keep them from ravelling. When you melt the ends, take a paper towel or a rag and wipe the ends to form a point. This will make reinstall easier.
7. Push the rope throught the eyelet of the starter top and through the hole in the pulley and tie a figure 8 knot on the inside of the pulley. Tie the starter handle on the other end. but do not tighten this knot, you may have to untie it to lace it back through to where it goes.
8.. Hold tension on the rope and remove the screwdriver. The rope should retract into the starter top.
9.Reinstall everything in reverse order.

Good luck!

How to replace coil string

This is best done with two people. Remove cover, place down so you are viewing the rope pulley. Remove all old rope. Measure 8 foot of new rope. line up pulley rope hole with rope opening in cover. Wind rope pulley 6 turns. Push new rope thru both rope openings, one in pulley and one in cover. Pull rope thru pulley and cover. Tie knot in pulley end of rope, Slowely release rope so it rewinds onto pulley. Install hope handle, your done. was'nt that easy? You will have extra rope, this is needed to go from engine to handle support on your mower handle.

Lawn mower pull cord

This works best with two people. Remove cover and pull cord will be inside cover. If your handle on pull cord is attatched to a metal ring up on the handle, you will need 8 foot of new pull cord.
With all the old cord removed, wind cord pulley 6 revolunations, now, have someone hold the pulley, while you string the new cord thru pulley and out the cord hole on cover. Be sure to put a knot on the end going thru pulley. Draw cord all the way thru and out of the cover. Attatch the handle and let it rewind. You will have extra cord, this will be used up going from engine up the handle. I hope this helps

REPLACE PULL CORD

the part that's riveted to the motor isn't to come off. You need to take the flywheel cover off; that't the whole thing, and it's held on by 3 bolts. Once that's off, you can get to the nylon pulley. easiest way to do this, is to take the screw out of the center that holds the pulley in, gently lift the pulley out just enough to get a hold of the rope, thread it back through the hole, and put the pulley back in place. Then pull the rope all the way out, and hold the pulley once it's out. you can then either pull it out from the knot inside the retractor, or you can cut the knot off, and pull the rope out. now, you want to turn the pulley the same direction that the rope pulled it out, until it gets tight. Back it off enough that you line up the hole in the cover with the hole in the retractor where you knot the rope. push your new rope through, tie a knot in it, and take up the slack. now you can let go of the retractor, and let it pull the new rope in. when it's done, put the cover back on, measure out the new rope to end up at the holder on the handle, and cut it and put the handle on the rope.

The starter rope on my B&S 375 engine snapped. Is it easy to replace? I took the cover off from around the starter and it seems to be popped riveted onto the top of the engine. Many thanks

The pop rivets are irrelevant. if you look in the center of the nylon retract pulley inside, you'll see the screw that holds it all together. Take that screw out, and the pawl system will come out(make sure you remember how they came apart), then you can pull your retractor out, take the old rope out, put the retractor back in, wind it up all the way, then you can run the new rope in and tie the knot. Then let it draw the new rope in, put everything back together, and if you let it draw it in and had rope left over, pull it out about 4 inches before you put the handle on. Don't let go of the rope at this point, or you'l have to take it apart again. After this, make sure everything's back together the right way, and put the cover back on.
