I was charged for extra plays and didnt get to play

Just radio or, cd player too? I would check the antenna connection especially if it's just radio.

i tried it again and it didnt work so i went back to argos and got another one and it worked then it was my 1st ipod it was faulty lol

If the light is flashing, that means it's charging, but it's possible you're not getting enough charging current to really make a difference.
I would try charging the player with a wall charger (can you borrow a charger from a friend?)
