Sounds like it started "Protection Mode" because of a failed electronic part inside the TV. When this happens, the TV will keep turning itself OFF or will not turn ON at all. This keeps the other part inside from being damaged. Most likely the TV has a power supply related problem. It's possible that it maybe a bad capacitor or transformer on the power supply board. The common part to go bad for flat panel screens circuit board that powers the screen. Most manufactures call it a Backlight Inverter Board.
But, I can't say it's 100% the problem because I can't actually look at the tv over the internet. I can only make guesses with the symptoms.

You have a few choices:

1. You can again try leaving the TV unplugged for 30 - 45 minutes so the TV can discharge and reset itself.
2. If by chance the TV is still under warranty, go that route.

3. If you have some electronic experience, purchase a Service Manual over the internet at Nodevice.com; It will help you diagnose the source of the problem and fix it by soldering in the new part. The Service Manual will give you circuit diagrams, schematics, test points, and part# lists.Usually, cost under $20. And most cases the new part cost less than $15 by searching on the internet with the part number.

4. Pay a TV shop to do the repairs. It maybe costly, but get an estimate of how much they will charge. That way you can decide if it worth repairing or replacing the whole TV.

I hope I shed some light on the subject for you.

AKAI LCT2701TD no power, no flashing light? Would the problem be the same as those with a flashing light or do I look for something different?

Hi
The flashing light is actually a code indicating an area that may be defective. With no light at all, I would assume something is wrong in the primary of the power supply or a major component has completely shorted thus causing the primary to stop working. Find a reputable repair person. Good luck

Red power indicator light is blinking

The flashing light indicates a short circuit inside the power supply circuitry. This type of repair is not a DIY without a multimeter, desoldering iron and hand soldering skills. I repair these power supplies, if you need further info write to [email protected]

Akai LCT2701TD Won't turn on. Red light in front blinks.

There is a high power supply failure rate on these LCDs. The power boards are not longer being manufactured or not easy to find.

AKAI LCT2701TD SMPS Failure: Red flashing light

I do not think there aren't any new power supplies available to fix these LCDs. The only way to make the LCD work again is to have someone to repair the power supply.
You could send me an email to [email protected] for more info.

Flashing RED Light

Our AKAI also shut off & the red light started to blink...got no help from AKAI, but did from COSTCO. We bought the set before the 90 day warranty they have in place now, so they referred us to COSTCO Concierge Services: 1-866-861-0450. We were referred to a repair service & after discovering what the problem was found out that AKAI not longer has parts for this model. COSTCO replaced our TV---talk about satisfaction guaranteed.
