My STR-DB840 had no sound from center channel nor sub channel, other four channels worked fine. Ended up being a faulty AK4527 DAC chip on the digital board. This little ****** has 3 serial data inputs: First one takes care of L and R, second is for rears and the third is for center and sub. No idea how a thing like this can fail, i bought the unit almost new but second-hand eight years ago and used it until now with 2 large front speakers and rears so maybe the problem was there all the time.

Swapped the data lines 2 and 3 by soldering and crossed the analog wires at the AU switch board connector so that the three front channels and sub are now okay but the rears are sacrificed. Works for my 2.1 setup though.
the AVR could still be used for 5.1 with an external decoder as the 5.1 inputs do not need the DAC.

I have a Sony DH-810 reciever and 7 speakers (8 ohm) and one sub (4 ohm). I don't get any sound from my sub?

Remove power for a while and reset the amplifer, check for any error codes. If you do not have a manual please check the following link for the nearest model. Calibrate and use test tones according to the procedure mentioned in the manual and reset.
If there is no result the sub woofer amplifier is faulty , need to check within for the power supply or there can be a failure within in the driver output.

Hello ,you will want to go into the setup mode on the remote and make sure the subwoofer is turned on,it might be turned off .You can view the setings right on the front of the reciever as your scrolling thru speaker setting options.

Hi, the receiver has no sound when it turned on and the display is off as well, although the functions as output, channel selector are working. Appreciate your input for the problem.

SONY STR db840
No display:
broken trace on "Digital board" ,feeding 32v from "DC board" to "Display board"
solution: make new jumper btw. "CNS2" and "CNP4" on "Digital board"
Now display OK again : )

Connecting a Sony Subwoofer SA-W2500 to a STR DE 598

It is based on your sub-woofer type..whether powered or passive sub woofer..
Assume that you have powered one..RCA sub woofer jack is the best to feed it ..you should use RCA sub woofer output on your receiver as well..good luck

Sound from reciever

LFE (ONE CABLE ON THE SUB TO SUB OUT ON AVR) OR stereo L/R analog cable from sub to tape in/or out on avr (depends on AVR) LFE connection the sub turns up with the AVR - the stereo cable threw tape in/out on AVR only turns up via its own onboard amp volume from AVR has no affect.

STR-DB840 no sound in speakers

There are 4 blue relays in the unit that has solder points that will crack over time.
It´s fairly "easy" to re-solder them and viola, it´s OK again.

open the cover (unscrew and take of the hood) and locate the 4 blue relays.0cddb82.jpg Unscrew and remove the bottom service plate and locate the soldering points for the 4 relays.c0f1d35.jpg
Each relay has 6 solderings, 4 in one "groop" and 2 in one "groop" look especially at the "2-groop" these are the ones most likely to crack over time ( for me 12 years or so).3436d08.jpge6f7344.jpg
Re- solder. Best of luck //Ronnie Stockholm

Cerwin Vega ve-28s subwoofer and new Cervin Vega 2-way satellites

I bought my VE-28s and it did exactly that crackled, cerwin replaced part in amp but few months later problem persisted. they then replaced entire amp assembly and its been fine. i really push it to and its been fine. to test it, unplug the connection from amp/ reciever and see if it persists. if so its the sub, if not its the amp/ reciever. dont dump it, these subs really crank and can put out some deep loud bass.
