Check breakers and fuses --if power good to unit will need to start going through the circuits the broiler shouldnt have sparked with out element unless the connector is grounding out against something or damaged when taken out will need to look and examine the connection

If element caught on fire, I would suspect stove needs cleaning. Do that then elements should not smoke for long. (I hope all moisture was removed from stove!!!)

My stove poped and went off. I tripped the breaker and now the oven will not heat. Neither the top or bottom unit.

First I would look at the heating element in the oven and make sure it is all in one piece. there are usually one on the bottom and one on top. sometimes they will burn apart and short out to stove. if they look ok then do a quick check, I would turn off all knob on the stove top and oven. then try to reset the breaker. hopefully it resets ok. then turn on one at a time and see which burner or oven element has a short. when you find the bad burner or stove element it will trip the breaker again.
hope this helps

The inside oven is not heating. The top burners are working fine.

If this is an electric oven, most likely the oven bake element has burnt out.
the model and serial number should be behind the bottom drawer,
most elements are held in with (2) 1/4 inch socket hex head screws.

Remember to unplug stove or shut off breaker before servicing.
The element can be slid out usually, then unplugged or remove
the back cover behind stove and unplug it from the wiring harness.
I hope this is useful

Oven was heating and we got HEAVY smoke....

Nothing in the elements, thermostat thermocouples are gas filled, sensors have wiring inside, nothing in the liner or insulation. You said this was a stove, and some stoves have a vent that goes up through one of the burners on the top. If you had oil splatter or drip into this it can get into your oven. We do know that some blower fans on convection ovens have a sealed oil bearing, but there would be very little oil coming out of this (drops) and you will notice your fan getting noisier or running slower in the near future. Bottom burner in my oven barely comes on, in turn, not heating my oven to the temperature that is selected. Top burner (or broiler seems to work fine). The gas stove is a GE XL44 and is 6 years old. Please...

You need a new t-stat control. Your element is fine. Give us a call with your complete model number and we'll get the right part out to you asap to get you ready for the winter.

I have kitchen aid in the counter range, the bottom heat element is bad. The element has burnt and has a 3" piece that has separated. At the same time the oven stopped working the burners stopped working...

The oven element will not affect the top burners, Unless it tripped the breaker at the panel when the element burned it two. Is there power to the stove? The top burners have their own power and control separate.

Stove does not work now that we have removed a broken element

Carleen,
Thanks for the reply.

OK... I know this sounds odd and all... but all of the components (elements in the oven specifically) have to be installed and working correctly for the oven to operate properly.

Most people don't know this, but even when the oven is turned off and sitting there peacefully waiting for something to cook, there is STILL 120 Volts at one of the terminals on the element. Know what that means? That means that it is constantly (always) powered up! It also means that it is a necessary component involved in applying 220 volts to all the OTHER (cook top burners anyone?) components.

So... to take care of this and to bring you oven (and cook top) back to life, ya gotta go get yourself a new element and install it. OK?

Do you have the model number? If you do, give it to me and I'll look up the part number for you, deal?
