Gloria, yes it may be the battery, a bad connection at the battery or a bad ground at the frame. it could also be a blown fuse. start with the battery and clean all connections.

Mowing yard and stopped to go inside. Come back out and mower turned over but would not crank. Kept trying and it started clicking. Rocked the mower and it started. now does same thing but won't start

Check your charge in the battery. Clicking usually is dead battery. If the battery is good, starter may be bad (or at least the starter solenoid).

SOLENOID DOES NOT GRIND FOR IS NO A MOBIL DEVICE, IT MIGHT BE THE STARTER WHAT IS NOT WORKING, SPECIFICALLY THE ACTUATOR THAT MIGHT BE STUCK, DISMOUNT STARTER AND CHECK SPRING AND GREASE THE SHAFT NO TO MUCH.

Why won't my craftsman mower turn over/ start ?

Check your battery. The clicking you hear is likely the relay not getting enough voltage to close and latch and is just toggling.

IT IS NOT RECOMMENDED THAT YOU JUMP START YOUR MOWER WITH YOUR CAR AS YOUR CAR BATTERY IS LIKELY A HIGHER VOLTAGE AND COULD CAUSE YOUR MOWER BATTERY TO FAIL. CATASTROPHICALLY.

Will not start

I have a feeling what happened was you shorted out the ignition switch, somehow. If you can get behind the switch without much trouble, try to jump the wires together 2 at a time just to see if it will jump the , lights, starter, ignition, one of the 3. or get a voltage tester, it will do the same thing. There is a fuse on there in the line, sits next to the battery. check it. Hope this helps,

Put battery cables on wrong

For starters remove the battery and take it back to the store where you bought it and have them test it. Your solution may be to purchase another battery.
