SOURCE: 1988 Toyota Corolla high idle with lights on

Because it's carbeurated they have an electric 'idle up' solinoid (or vacuume) to compensate for rev loss when load is put on the engine caused by the alternator working harder because your using power. It should have a small adjustment screw on the carbeurator to lower the revs. If you have it set too low it will shudder when in drive & foot on brake with headlights on. It should only pick up about 200rpm when lights are on. To find the screw, take the air filter off, run the engine & look for something moving when the lights are turned on & off. Somewhere near the moving bit you will find the adjustment screw. I hope. I'm not sure exactly where it is on that model.

Hi I have bought. super splendor bike 2011.my bike mailege. was suddenly getting down to 30 kms.per litre. I have changed new air filter. And head walls setting also. but no result.

Hi Anonymous and the usual suspects are:
1. Excessive enrichner use.
2. High-speed riding style.
3. Idle speed improperly adjusted.
4. Dirty air cleaner element (may also affect idle speed).
5. Vacuum piston assembly malfunction.
6. Excessive accelerator pump output.
7. Plugged or restricted bowl vent.
8. Fuel level too high.
9. Loose jets.
10. Worn or damaged needle or needle jet.
11. Enrichner valves not seated or leaking.
12. Plugged air jets or passages.
Good luck and have a nice day.

Poulan 222 38cc choke problem; choke has to be kept out for it to continue running. Carbeurator has been cleaned.

Sounds like this saw has had gasoline with alcohol in it and the idle jet is plugged up. Have to take it apart and use a small wire to open the jet. Just cleaning the carb will not solve this problem. With the idle jet plugged adjusting the idle screw will accomplish nothing. Then us gasoline with no alcohol in it from then on. Search with google to find a station that sells non alcohol gasoline in your area.

Repair manual

Hi Robert:
Before you remove or try to adjust your low and high speed jets you should always count the number of turns it takes to lightly seat the idle mixture screw and high speed needle adjusting screws.
Be sure to write the number of turns down on a piece of paper so you will know how many turns from the seated position to open the jets when you go to reinstall them, or if you remove them for cleaning or replacement.
If you have aready tried to adjust them then the adjustments below should get it running for you for final adjustment when warm.
Normally you will adjust your idle jet to 1/2-3/4 turn open from the bottom seated position.
Then you will re-adjust the low speed of the engine when the engine is warm by turning the idle screw in or out till the engine runs smoothly at idle speed, around 1200 RPM.
The high speed jet is adjusted to 1 1/2- 1 3/4 open from the bottom seated position, after the engine is warm.
Then re-adjusted by turning the High Speed jet adjustment screw in or out till the motor runs smoothly at high speed.
Alway use the "lightly seated" method if you have not changed the screw settings.

Idle adj screw vibrates out and the idle speed is high.

Hi Charles Gregory.

When you clean your carburetor and remove the jet screws, you will first need to lightly seat the jet screws.
But before you lightly seat the jet screws count the number of turns it takes to seat the jet screws from their original position.
Be sure to mark the turns down on a piece of paper.
That way when you put the jets back in, you know to lightly seat them first and then turn them back out to their original position before you started.
Make sure your spring that goes on the idle screw is in place.
You can also use some "locktite" thread locking compound on the threads of the needle if the spring is missing.

1964 5 1/2 hp evinrude kills at high speed

You should have a High Speed carb adjust and a Low Speed carb adjust. If it's running fine while idling, adjust the high speed setting. If you have two nobs, its the lower one. May be set wrong. If you don't have two nobs, remove the carburator and check the jets to make sure they are completely clean or better yet, order yourself a carb rebuild kit to take care of all of this. I just rebuilt my 1971 evinrude 4hp and the carb kit made the world of difference.
