Figure out where the sensor is and block it to see if stray IR is hitting it.

This is most likely a board that is failing. If you want to see if the issue is the sensor board, find the cable from it to the main board and unplug it and see if the issue stops. If it does, you can order the sensor board, if it does not or the sensor is on the main board, you'll have to order that board and they are hard to find right now.

My lg remote will not respond, and the menu icon popps up every 30 seconds and wont stop. it just started today. what the heck?

From your description, it sounds like the main board is acting up and or one of the buttons on the TV are stuck.
Unplug the TV for a few minutes. One at a time, try to push every button on the TV’s keypad to hear the micro buttons click, especially the MENU button. (It sounds like that is the one stuck down)
Put all of your remotes in another room. They may have a stuck button that is sending a signal to your TV that is causing the problem.
Plug the TV back in, don’t touch any button on the TV and or the Remote, and see it the problem is fixed.
If the problem is not resolved, then it sounds like the main board and the keypad need to be checked out to identify the failure. To check out the main board and or the keypad would require a TV tech.
I hope this information has helped you.
Good Luck.

The first thing is to take out the batteries from the remote when the problem acts up. If this fixes it, replace the remote. If not, go to the front of the tv and find all the buttons that are on the tv. Start by pushing all of the buttons one at a time. They should all feel the same and sound the same when you push them. If one of them does not, then the buttons are the problem. If they are good, take to a repair shop. The main control board is bad.
