I haven’t used my machine for years and would like to know the tensions etc but I can’t remember which is the zipper foot

a zipper foot is one that is only half a foot
that allows the needle to get close to the zipper as for tensions
needle thread tension will be correct when you pull the thread just before threading the needle and you can feel resistance to pulling the thread

I'm trying to insert a zipper with my Husqvarna Viking Opal 650 and the instruction book shows to use the E foot but on my Graphic Display it doesn't show what # to use. Appreciate any assistance

Husqvarna Viking Presser Feet

You can probably use any zipper foot made for your machine.
This is what the E foot looks like, so one that is similarly shaped should work:

Just make sure the foot is adjustable (right or left) so you can avoid hitting the foot with the needle.

Using invisible zipper foot - needle hitting foot

We need to know the brand and model of your machine? Some zipper feet slide left or right. If yours does this, then you need to adjust the zipper foot so the needle doesn't hit.

What type of foot do I need when attaching popper closure tape to a duvet cover. It needs to leave more space under foot for popper height.

You do NOT want to sew over the popper. Instead, use a narrow zipper foot and adjust your machine needle to stitch just on the very edge of the tape. Hitting a popper will definitely break your needle and possibly knock the machine out of time.

Be sure to get the right foot to fit your machine!

Your machine's zipper foot may not look like this, but it should give you the basic idea.

Pfaff Expresions 3.0. Using my zipper foot with 3 teeth. But can not get the needle to position to sew close to zipper

Um, not sure what presser foot you are using--there are several.

If it is the invisible zipper foot, there is a groove in the bottom of the presser foot that straddles one strip of zipper teeth which positions it close to the needle. Zipper foot #4 snaps to either side to enable the needle to be close to the zipper teeth. The Narrow Adjustable Zipper/Straight Stitch and the Non-Stick Zipper Feet are moveable left or right.

I have a singer 4552 (portable) and I am having a prblem getting the zipper foot attached. Also I am having a problem getting the design stiching to work. I can get the red design stiches to work but not...

Hi. Here's how to attached the zipper foot.

To Attach the Zipper Foot
1. Loosen the large screw at the left of the presser bar and remove presser foot (You do not need to remove the screw).
2. Hook the prongs of the Zipper Foot around the presser bar from the back, and tighten the presser-bar screw.
3. If the raised edge (zipper or cording) is to the right of the needle, adjust the Zipper Foot by loosening the thumb screw at the back of the foot and sliding foot to the left of the needle. If the raised edge is to the left, slide foot to right.
4. With presser foot down, check its position by lowering needle into side notch, making sure it just clears the foot.
5. Tighten thumb screw to lock foot into position.
When raised edge is placed to right -- adjust foot to left of needle.
When raised edge is placed to left -- adjust foot to right of needle.

How to use a zipper foot please? I have lost instructions and have no idea which is the zipper foot or how to use it can you help please.

  1. Step 1 To prepare the fabric for a centered zipper application, use the standard presser foot to baste the opening of the fabric shut using 5/8 inch seam allowance. Press the seam allowance open. Place the zipper teeth side down on the seam allowance and pin the zipper to the seam allowance only.
  2. Step 2 Release the standard presser foot from your machine. There may be a button or lever behind the foot that you need to press. Put the standard foot in its holder or someplace where it won’t get lost.
  3. Step 3 Decide which side of the machine you want to attach the zipper foot to. Zipper feet are asymmetrical, with one side that’s wider than the other. You’ll want to put the narrow side toward the zipper teeth, and the wider side away from the zipper teeth.
  4. Step 4 Attach the zipper foot to the sewing machine. You may need to line up the bar on the zipper foot with the presser foot holder, then lower the presser foot by lowering the lever. Raise the presser foot and make sure the zipper foot is securely attached.
  5. Step 5 Place the prepared fabric with the pinned zipper in the sewing machine. Lower the needle into the zipper tape and the seam allowance only, then lower the zipper foot. Stitch the zipper tape to the seam allowance. To sew the other side of the zipper to the seam allowance, remove the zipper foot from the sewing machine and install it on the other side of the presser foot holder.
  6. Step 6 Topstitch the outside of the fabric to each side of the zipper tape, making sure that the zipper foot is on the appropriate side of the machine for each side. Remove the basting with a seam ripper.
