Question about Washing Machines

Open Question

No voltage to pump.

I replaced the pump and the washer still does not work. I checked the voltage to the pump by putting it into spin and drain only. The recycle pump kicks on for a moment and then the drain pump is supposed to start but does not. That is when I checked for the 120 volts and I had nothing. The washer did drain all of the sudden at one point today, but then stopped after about 5 seconds of running.

SOURCE: drain pump starts and stops prior to final spin cycle

Jayron, is the motor jogging? start to spin, stop, start to spin stop. If so, your motor is jogging between the high and low start windings. The motor during spin should start on the high speed windings and stay there until most of the water is drained. GE came out with a new motor, harness and run cap because of this. If you have a meter, there should be a white and white/red wire going to the motor. If you have a steady 120V and it's doing this jogging, replace the motor with the kit...Let me know if this the issue, Catriver..post back.

SOURCE: Washer will not pass wash cycle...Will not Drain

Nightshade, in most cases, no spin, no drain is a lid switch problem. If you advance the timer to the spin position does it spin? If the machine is agitating you can rule out the coupler. If you are sure that it is not a lid switch problem, then you are probably looking at a bad timer....Catriver..post back.

SOURCE: Wont power on after replacing drain pump.

could be just the fuse, but failing that check all circuit boards for signs of blowing or burns, some machines when there is a short on the pump blow the circuit on the timer which is the most expensive part to replace best of luck

SOURCE: Washer fills/agitates and stops prior to draining

If pump works fine or still pumps out water, then it is a timer malfunction. Replace the timer and you should be fine. To locate a part number for your timer, refer to www3.sears.com with the model number off your washer.

Drain pump

follow this steps and fix it. God bless you
Drain Pump Filter
This is the most common problem. Some have a small cover in the lower front put a screwdriver in the hole and turn counterclockwise to remove. There will be a cover to remove, water will come out so be prepared with a towel or wet vac. Clean this out. Other Machines will need to access the drain pump to get to the filter. This can be done by remove back panel on some washers. On others you will need to remove the lower panel or complete front panel depending on model. The filter is located inside the large hose from the tub to the pump. remote the hose and filter.

Drain Pump
The drain pump may have failed. If you hear it making noises you will need to remove the drain pump and check for obstructions, broken impeller, or not spinning freely. Remove obstructions if it does not spin freely replace the drain pump. If you hear it hum replace the pump if nothing is found inside. If no noise is heard check the pump for power. To do this remove the wire connectors and connect a voltmeter turn to a drain cycle, refer to tech sheet or service manual for proper voltage reading, usually any voltage would probally indicate a faulty pump. If no voltage to the pump replace the main control board.

Hoses
Check the hoses from the pump by disconnecting them and make sure there are no obstructions. Check your hoes drain, if it is a slow drain this can cause your washer to not properly drain.

Oe message on lg front loader washer model wm2277hb. wont drain or spin. already check the drain filter and hose. what else could be wrong

It is a long drain error and occurs when the washer is not fully drained after 10 minutes of draining. Remove the cabinet cover and check the following:

  1. Drain Pump Connector The connector may be disconnected or disassembled. Reassemble or repair if necessary.
  2. Drain pump coil
Check pump coil resistance between the terminals using an ohmmeter. Resistance should be between 10-20 ohms. If the resistance is too high or too low, replace the drain pump.
  3. Voltage Check the voltage between the connector in step 1 during spin. The voltage should be 120Vac, else replace the main board assembly
Main board replacement:
  1. Disconnect the power connector and sensor switch assembly.
  2. Remove the main board protective cover.
  3. Disconnect the connectors.
  4. Remove the screw on the back of the main board.
  5. Slide the main board to the right then pull it up.
  6. Replace the main board in reverse order above.

Washer won't drain and clothes stay soaked

Can you give me a model and brand name. Does the washer drain at any time during the wash cycle?
Will it go into a spin at all in any setting? heavy duty, normal and delicate cycle? is water not draining?

Will not drain

Hi smonalisax,
If you washer is not draining you could have a problem with your lid switch. It will also cause the washer not to spin or pump. If your washer tries to spin then stops it is not the lid switch.
If it tries to spin you should next check your pump. Your pump could have an obstruction in it. Like a sock or hair pin. For this problem remove the hoses from the pump and clear obstruction be ready for the flood of water. you may want to dip the water out before you do any hose removal. If you do not find anything in the pump, check voltage to the pump. To do this put the machine in spin and start. read the voltage going to the pump. If you have voltage and it is not pumping, you will need a new pump. If you have no voltage and the lid switch is good, you will most likely need a new timer. Good luck and I really hope this will FIXYA.
