Start the air conditioner and physically go and have a look. You should be able to see and hear what is causing the problem. If it is the fan, assuming there is nothing caught, then something has changed to cause the 'Banging' sound. Either the cowling has moved or a fan bearing has collapsed etc. Once the cause has been found, then that's another question on how to fix. Cheers.

I don't know how to differentiate if it's the cowling or the bearing. But theres alot of movement if the fan is pulled outwards

End play in the fan motor is not a real concern so long as there is no sideways movement. If the fan spins freely it is probably OK. With the fan turned off, if you cannot physically move the fan sideways to hit any part of the cowling, then it probably isn't the fan.

I've discovered that it is the centre part of the fan that has warped or expanded out of shape. I've tried everywhere I can find to get a new fan for my KSR10F split system but everywhere I've tried including Kelvenator have told me that the fan part is discontinued. There's got to b sum where I can get this part for my Aircon in NSW?

Hi Chris sorry for not getting back to you sooner but, try a couple of privateer air con contractors as they often have dead units lying around. If that fails you may be able to adapt another make and / or model part to fit. The fan is only there to suck air through the cooling fins so anything will suffice really. Just make sure the voltages are the same as yours. Cheers Bob

does the ac continue to make the noise even in fan only mode or is only in cooling mode. If only in cooling then it could be a gas related problem or blocked coil.

Frigidaire in wall air conditioner making noise fan/ motor?

Is it a clicking or banging sound? The fan is most likely not kicking up the moisture to cool the evap coil off enough in the unit so you might here more noise for a little while. Monitor it and let me know if anything changes.

My air conditioner unit outside is making a very loud banging noise. It sounds almost like a small jack hammer. i noticed it this mornin and immediately turned off my system. Any ideas?

Hi!!

Have you taken a look at it???? It sounds to me like the condenser fan blades are bent or something fell in thru the grill that the blades are hitting on. If this is the case, TURN OFF POWER TO UNIT AT BREAKER BOX , remove the screws around the grill or cover
to get to the blades and fix the problem..

Don't forget to rate this post!! Good Luck!!

I have an airconditioner a Kelvinator KSR20C Split system

Your condensor fan motor has more than likely gone out. This fan should run at all times when the unit is on. Since the fan isn't working then the motor must have gone out.

I noticed some straining noise coming from my a/c unit today. The fan on top of the condenser runs fine but as soon as the compressor tries to kick on the fan stops for a split second and you get a kind of...

You amy ahave a bvad capacitor on the outside unit. It starts the fan and the compressor. You can change this yourself. Open the outside panel and you will see a silver canister with terminals out the top. Replace this and I think your problem will go away. On the cap. it will say something like 30uf 5uf 370 ot 440 Just get these numbers and get a new one. Russ
