The cable box is probably outputting a resolution the monitor is not compatible with. Computer monitor and television resolutions are usually different, and not cross compatible in some cases.
For example, wide screen monitors are usually 16:10 aspect ratio, while TV is usually 16:9 aspect.
The AL2216wbd is a 1680x1050 display, while HD TV is either 720p (1280x720) or 1080i (1920x1080).
If your cable box is set to 1080i that would be too high for the monitor. You will need to set it to output at 720p, and even then you will probably get a vertically stretched picture since the monitor has a taller aspect.

First, fire up monitor in VGA. You can then use the monitor menu to select the hdmi instead of vga. Restart andf it should work Ok.

I have a new HP pavilion slimline with Vista......a 19 inch flatscreen monitor......I went nuts with it not connecting and saying no DVI input......
I tried something and so far it has worked 10 times in a row...
start out with puter and monitor off.......turn on monitor.......let it go to sleep....then turn on puter....
I have the puter that has the start button on top of it.....not too crazy about it.....
hope this works for you.........Judy in NY

I had a similar problem whereas my monitor went to sleep mode after a few minutes. I'm running an HP LP 2065 in dual mode with another HP flat screen. However, I did resolve the issue after resetting the output settings.
How to do that:
