Unable to control over-revving on Honda gx340, is this a governor issue and how do I fix it??

I know it's not a honda, but my generac governor went out, had to take it to a repair shop (still under warranty) they showed me the problem was the pin had snapped, u may have to "bite the bullet" and have a small engine repair tech do it. Its not easy to get to.

should be an internal govenor on a plant unit like that

there is a thicker than normal metal rod running off the carby to the motor and that is where you adjust the govenor

cant find good instruction how that governor is adjusted ..if adjusted the wrong way it will rev out may even throw a piston

then check carby idle adjustment
should hunt (rev up and down only slightly )as load changes

the chart shows figures of 10.7 hp-8.0kw with a torque of 19.5 ft/lbs- 26.4nm at 2500rpms ( max net torque)
the chart shows gx390 is 11.7hp (8.7kw) but the torque is the same as the gx340
you can get these figures from world. honda com or by going google and typing in--torque range of honda gx 340 motor at max rpms
10 hp engines running at 2500 rpms will be good for gensets of 5kw continuous out put as most makes run that size engine

Excessive fuel entering the inlet manifold, carby needle and seat not shutting of fuel flow , remove and clean fit new gaskets and needle and seat if worn.

Are you saying the rope MAY be too short and so the amount of pull available is also shortened?

Hi,the quick,but not final fix for this issue is to use a oil additive similar the one-s from the cars,but make sure you are using the one required by the fuel type.The engine is worn out,needs overhaul,soon or later.Good luck,regards

Align crankshaft and balancer gear first. Rotate crankshaft and align timing gear. Alignment mark may be hard to see on crankshaft for timinig gear.

You have a nice setup, lots of power. The honda gx340 has a compression release built into the engine so it should be relatively easy to start. With the pressure pump under load however, it will be very hard to pull the rope. With water connected hold spray gun open so water is running out tip and pull rope to start (for easy start, remove tip from gun) . If it still feels very hard to pull rope while holding gun open, most likely problem with lubrication in pump or engine valves are not adjusted correctly preventing compression release. If you suspect problem, go to store where you purchased the unit or any store that sells gx340 and pull the rope to get a feel of what force is required to start engine and compare to yours. You will find your information by looking for model number and code of engine. Look on the fan cover, valve cover engine block or tag directly on the engine itself. Example would be Honda model gx340 from starter of engine. Then check google or mfg. web site for manual showing governor linkage. Norhstar uses several brands of engines. Good luck
