The thermal overload sensor on the Hi voltage transformer is shutting it down to prevent smoke and potential fire. The transformer is getting hot. It needs to be replaced.

I have a PLMV178HC Frigidaire microwave oven. The oven has stopped heating things up completely, but it still turns on and the tray still turns when I try to heat things up. What could be wrong and ca

Most microwaves have an internal fuse; it might be blown. To access it, you'd have to take the oven apart (usually just a few screws), BUT capacitors inside could store hundreds of volts, even after the unit has been unplugged for a while, so do not attempt to replace it unless you are familiar with HV circuits.
Other possibilities are a burnt-out magnetron or tranformer; it would be cheaper to buy a new oven than to replace those components.

It sounds like the thermal fuse may be defective, or the fan is not running, or the magnetron is getting to hot. If there are any heat issues the thermal fuse will cut power and reset in 5 minutes.

Microwave turns on but wont heat

The magnetron (the part that heats the food) may be bad or the circuitry to the magnetron may have burned out. Basically my advice is that if you have no electrical expertise, it isn't worth fixing. The magnetron if bad, costs almost as much as a new microwave. If you open it up (make sure it has been unplugged for a few hours and don't seen any obvious burnt parts (including a fuse and the diodes), then most likely the magnetron is done and a new microwave is the way to go.

Let me know how this works out for you.

My over the oven microwave turns off after a few

i would check your thermal cut offs inside he cabinet, there is a chance that your cooling fan is bad, even thought it may be turning it might not be turning at a fast enough rpm to proper;y cool the unit.
the last thing that i think would be bad is the control board.I hope this helps you get your microwave fixed

Microwave turns off after 1-2 seconds

It turned out to be the three door attachments that weren't lined up. It has been fixed. We almost bought a new one because Samsung referred us to a service that would have charged way too much to be worth it even thought the machine is only 3 or so years old. Luckily, we looked further. A local independent appliance fixer came to the house and took care of it within a few hours of my call! Yea!

Microwave's Power goes off after 3 minutes running..

If the time from START to shut off were EXACTLY 3 minutes, then I would suspect a sensor problem or corrupted code in the microprocesor. But since that time sounds more random, it sounds heat-related, and I would suspect a failing magnetron or a failure in the cooling system. If the cooling fan is not running while the oven is cooking, this failure can occur, and can destroy the magnetron in short order. A cracked magnet (has the oven been dropped?) or other problem can cause a magnetron to go bad and overheat. If it's under warranty, I would definitely contact the manufacturer (see your manual) to find an authorized local servicer. If it's out of warranty, I would balance the cost of a new microwave versus a bench diagnosis fee of $25 or more or an in-shop repair cost of maybe $80 or more.
