skypainter, I also am having the exact problem you are. After reading what buffalo said, I removed my glass cover and knocked the pilot piece a couple of times with my screwdriver handle and so far so good. Guess it loosened up the spring. Just hope to get through the cold season.

SOURCE: dyna-glo rmc-fa100a won't stay lit after releasing pilot knob

You should hold the pilot knob in at least 1 to 2 minutes, if it still goes out you need to replace the thermocouple. I hope this helps you out.

SOURCE: dyna glo tag along propane heater pilot stays on but when turning

sounds like either a bad thermocouple or more likely a pressure regulator problem. should have unit checked by someone familiar with propane systems.

I have a dyna glo 30,000btu lp ventless wall heater. I know it needs the ingniter replaced. I have tried to light it by hand and can not. It seams like their is know gas getting thru,is this possible

yes you have to get the thermo couple hot in order to get the gas valve to open to ignite the main flame
You are probably trying to light the main flame and not the pilot
light
Hold the pilot light button down and put flame to the pilot light opening
You need to be very careful depending on the type of flame you are using to light with the thermocouple could get hot enough to open the main burner flame and it will ignite

I suggest replacing the igniter rather than doing the above step

the pilot says on yes ? if not pilot could be blocked and need cleaning out or thermocouple needs changing if pilot is staying on then there could be a limit switch shutting off too soon , or burner needs cleaning

I do not have a dyna-glo i have a legacy panel heater and need a new thermocouple and need assistance finding .

Most of the thermocouples for thiese units are expensive and come from Italy. 99% of the time they are NOT the problem. Dust gets into the heater over the summer and weakens the pilot safety. Flush the pilot with rust buster. Let it dry and vacuum out the ceramic blocks. I recently tuned a vent free heater up. Took some photos: Vent free heater tune-up
Try a $2 bottle of rust buster before investing in a $45 thermocouple.

If it is a few years old, it could be the thermocouple. These are usually available from Lowes. Take your model/serial # and if you can, take the old part too.

We had a problem keeping the pilot light to stay on, and this site recommended that it could possibly be the thermocoupler that was causing our problems also. We ordered the thermocouple, put it on,hooked it back up and it worked great! Thank you so much.
