SOURCE: Radio clicks on and off during transmit.

Hi Dispatcher,

There might be a few things going on here. You say you hear clicking, regulator woudnt be doing that as they are solid state. It could be a relay, some radios have relays instead of electronic switching when you key up.If the voltage is too low that can cause the relays to "chatter", I would look into that first. Can you take the radio to your vehicle and hook it up there ? ( If you are set up for that) just to see if your battery will drive it better.
Are you running a Kicker or modulator? Lets get this sorted out and see what happens, there are other things but lets try one at a time.

Good Luck,

Tom

SOURCE: my customer has 6 motorola max trac vhf radios.

If this is a new install, it is likely noise from the vehicles electrical system scrambling the processor of the radio. Put a filter on the power leads and check your install.

My cobra 29 has a 75watt amp on the back how can i get more

If you're using the RFX-75 amp section. Then you'll need to make sure your transmiter section is tuned for full output. The last last unit I installed in a Cobra 29 LTD, the radio modulated right at 100 watts output.
Hope this helps,
J.R.

Just want to know if i should use my ll203 amp in am or ssb mode when running with a cobra CB radio?

What radio?? Does it have single side band(SSB)? If not, then don't use SSB.

AM - amplitude modulation
SSB - single side band.

If you have SSB, there would be a switch on it to transmit in SSB. If not, it is AM only.

Second, Has this radio been worked on to be able to run on an amp? If not, you will blow the amp.

A CB radio transmits dead keys with 4 watts of power, and transmits with 4 watts of audio.

a 4 watt dead key is too much for a linear amp. You will smoke the transistors. Also, 4 watts of audio is not enough to drive it properly. You won't get full power.

The dead key needs to be around 2 to 2 -1/2 watts,or what ever makes the linear dead key half its peak wattage., and the modulation (audio) turned up all the way.

It doesn't sound like you know too much about CB radio's. Not a big deal, you can learn. For right now you may want to take it to a cb shop and tell them you want a peak and tune, and set up to run a linear.

You can find CB shops usually at truck stops. Some area's they are other places. Check the internet for local shops.

RCI 2970 squeels until you unplug the external speaker and plug i

Strange! I used to run almost the same kinda setup but with a super scanner omnibeam, i modded mine myself. At 1 time i had a squeal problem it was in the mic if i remember correctlly i ran a external wire from the screw on the spring inside the mic where the cord comes out to the radio chassis and it stopped it give it a try. I used a simple speaker wire, also you might want to try grounding the radio to the power supply. Sounds like a ground problem! I have a awsome mod for that radio that would enable you to run a regular amp with it and also would enable you to talk local without engaging the amp in the radio using only 4 watts! Let me know how it works out for you with the squeal? if intrested in that mod contact via email at (noteethontop@yahoo.com). put 2970 in the subject line. Take care.
