How to get the latest Win 10 update from 10586 to 14393 with error "too low memory needs 8G"

Trying to update to current Win 10 OS from my pre-installed Win 10 bought with IRULU walknbook 10.1 32G quad core 2 in 1 hybrid bought in Feb 2016 on Amazon. I have extra memory 42G available on external drive. Cannot dump previous system restore point.

I purchased the hybrid with Windows 10 already installed Now it seems to automatically update then later automatically dump unused files. I got a message from Windows that an update is available but I can't seem to manually update because I can't get rid of old software. It wants to add the new in addition to the old.

How do I dump old stuff manually

To update to Win-10, the system requirements are:

  • The present O/S should be either Win-7 or Win-9 [Licenced version]
  • Minimum 2GHs processor.
  • Minimum 2 GB of Ram
  • Minimum 20GB of free hard disc space partition. (C - partition)
Otherwise, won't go. No need to try.

Finally cleared enough space on the drive by removing almost every program and all files, documentation and photos, then cleaned the drive using Avast Clean Up app. That did the final trick. The download of Windows Update has started.

What is the main benefit for upgrading?

with operating systems , it is only necessary to upgrade if you receive a notice that the current os( operating system) is no longer being supported ( no upgrades to eliminate problems )
an example here is the win 10 upgrade from a previous win 7 , vista etc
this up grade has conflicts with the installed os so it is better to get the win 10 program and install it in full rather than upgrade to win 10
Using mac os and you are happy and confident in the use of that version and there is no notice that that version will no longer be supported, then stay with what you know and is trouble free
however if you want more from the mac os consider buying the program and installing it complete rather than an up grade on the current base os
for advice on this sort of problem , go google and find forums on the subject and then make your decision or talk with a computer repair guy to get good information

My pc gives me message that there is not enough memory to open the control panel when I try to open the control panel what can I do? This is a windows xp

First off, your OS is obsolete and seriously risky to use due to dangerous security holes. Microsoft ended all support for Win XP last year, making it very easy for hackers to exploit those security holes with impunity. Absolutely, DO NOT USE this computer for any online activities. You may continue to use it safely for totally offline activities like playing built-in games or storing personal documents and data.

Chances are, however, that you posted this question with this computer. Even that was seriously risky!

Also, it is likely that this old computer is deficient in memory needed for contemporary programs. If you're getting "insufficient memory" error messages when trying to open the Control Panel (which is a program with memory demands), it is certain that your system memory is insufficient to handle the task. This is mostly likely due to insufficient installed memory, but could also be caused by a defective memory chip. In either case, new memory is needed.

But, think very carefully before spending money upgrading this obsolete computer. Not only is the installed memory not up to basic tasks, but most other resources, motherboard chips, and other components are also obsolete and not worth trying to fix with piecemeal replacement parts. Those, to be sufficient, will cost far more in total than a new computer, and will still leave you with a box of aging components and obsolete programs!

Sorry... But computers have a useful lifespan of much less than 10 years. It's time to "bite the bullet" and replace the whole enchilada.

You may be tempted to buy a remaindered or used computer running, say, Windows 7. But only consider this with your eyes open! Windows 7 is also rapidly approaching its end-of-support date (sometime in 2016, but with a couple of extensions likely), which will give it an effective lifespan of only 2-4 years. Although I personally hate the Windows 8 OS, it will soon be upgrade-able for free to Microsoft's upcoming Windows 10 OS, which will maximize the computer's lifespan to that 10 year range. So, go ahead and buy that remaindered Win 7 system... if you plan to trash it in 3 or 4 years. Or, much more economically, buy a current model. Also, be sure all its components are more than sufficient to handle your needs for the next 10 years, too. That means a good quad-core (or better) processor (like the Intel "I" series), at least 4G installed memory (better 8G or more), a big enough, fast enough hard-drive (or SSD drive), plenty of USB 3 ports and a couple HDMI ports, a fast DVD/Blu-Ray R/W drive, and a good video card with its own dedicated memory built-in. And, since the new computer will support at least a 1080p HD display, its probably a good time to upgrade your monitor, too.

If you want a longer lifespan than offered by PC's - and a more stable operating system - you may want to give serious thought to moving to a current Apple MAC system. These cost more, initially, than PC systems of comparable power, but should last longer, with fewer problems. But, also consider the limitations in compatibility with non-Apple products, the accessibility of your current documents and applications, and the learning curve required of you to transition to the Apple way of doing things. It's a very personal choice.

In summary: It's time to trash that XP system and move into 2015!

Ram Memory

What OS are you using? If you have a 32-bit OS, this is the normal behavior. The extra 0.75 GB isn't directly addressed by the OS; it will be used for part of the memory cache. If you had a 64-bit OS, you would either see the full 4GB of memory or have a POST memory error on boot.
For most Windows OS versions, you can check your version by going to the System Control Panel. On XP through Windows 7, click Start > Control Panel. Then go to System and Security > System. If you do not see x64 at the end of the OS title, you have the 32-bit OS. For Windows 8 from the desktop, use the Charms menu (Win+C) or Windows Tools menu (Win+X). Then from Charms, select Settings and then Control Panel. From the Tools, go to Control Panel. Select System and Security > System. Read the line "System Type" in the System section.
I hope this helps.

(My old system could not support a 64-bit OS due to the CPU; I still put in the full 4GB even though it wasn't fully accessible.)
