If u ck the pins in the center of your wheel hubs , you may see one or both missing , these pins are to allow one to free wheel the blower to "push " it easier , they do rust and break off over time

Testimonial: "Thank you much for your help. I found the problem, the key came out of the gear when the wheel had fallen off when I was using it this morning. The Kilk Pin had broken off."

Thank you for getting back so quickly. I see pins on the axel and they are there but why is the gear moving freely independent of the axel?

gear ?? the drive shaft (thru wheels) is driven via a power take off belt from the engine , this needs to go thru a clutch that has a cable actuator to engage the engine to the axl the "clutch" sometimes needs to be adj for how much it grabs the power from engine , could this be what u see ???

I HAVE A MTD SNOW BLOWER ICOULD TURN THE WHEELS BY HAND WHEN I PULL THE CABLE THE DONOT TURN THE BETS TURN

The cable may be rusted so when you pull the handle only the tension spring moves. Tilt the machine up onto its Auger and take the bottom cover off. See if anything is rusted and not moving when pressing the lever

My yardmachine snow blower 8hp auger won't turn. I replaced the cable and belt but it still won't turn. What else could be wrong?

Check the auger shear pins replace if necessary with correct parts(not regular bolts).
If auger and the impeller are not turning your cable is out of adjustment.
If only the auger doesn't turn, and the shear pins are ok then the brass/bronze gear has shredded which is why proper shear pins must be used. Donyboy73 on youtube show how to replace that gear on an older but similar MTD affiliated blower.

Wheels will not move. had to slide small gear on speed controler hex shaft. away from other gear to get wheels to turn . now one speed fast foward.

most have a friction plate and drive gear with rubber ring. if any one or all are worn you lose part of you lower speeds.

My Yardsman Snowthrower will not move when it is put in gear.

My old machine just did the same thing. When I lift the unit off the wheels with the gear engaged the wheels move. when I put it down the machine doesn't move. This happened while I was using the machine. BTW the machine is 20 years old.
