I can't find my update, where do I go?

I use a TOM TOM GPS, and they have an online Homepage that you can download any updates. I would imagine yours is the same. Look up the Rand TND520 homepage on the internet and look for a PC setup program. With the Tom Tom, I have to connect it to the PC with a USB cable and it automatically downloads and updates itself.

The screen is frozen and nothing is working, need help

Your answer depends on where it is frozen. If at the start up screen or accept screen then you will need to call Rand McNally Tech Support. If you can get to the main menu and the GPS is freezing when in use then there are several items to review to troubleshoot a freezing issue.

First reset the device. The reset button may be on the side or back of your device depending on the model number. This will clear any running processing on the device.

Inside vehicle location - Have you recently moved the device to another location inside the vehicle.A temporary loss of signal due to the device not having a clear view of the sky can cause it to freeze.

Power - are you using the Rand McNally provided charger and have the device plugged directly into the vehicle? If you are using a splitter please remove that.Plug the device directly into the vehicle and press the rest button and see if that resolves the issue.Have you noticed if the charge indicator is always on?Does it flash?

Updates - have you updated your device recently?Updates are imperative to keep your device current with the most recent software.Have you seen any error messages on the screen?

Vehicle location - Experiencing severe weather?Traveling through a lot of rolling hills?Does it happen in the same area all the time?

If you continue to experience freezing of your device and have checked all of the above, please call technical support.A representative will perform a more in depth diagnostics.

No gps signal

Hello Johnny,

A quick search in the Rand database shows there is a record of you registering your device, however we don't see any service tickets. Have you called Technical Support with your signal issue?

The answer to your question and many others can be found in the FAQ section on our support page at www.randmcnally.com/support. Additionally, for instructional videos on many of the TND & RVND features please visit the Rand McNally You Tube page at www.youtube.com/randmcnallyonline.

The issue normally occurs when device does not have a clear signal view of the sky.

Your device requires a direct line of sight between the receiver and the satellite. When an object lies within the direct path, accuracy suffers due to reflections and weakening of signals. This can be the cause of lost signal in urban environments, within valleys and on mountain slopes. In all three situations, the objects (buildings and the Earth itself) are substantial enough to completely block the GPS signals. When weak signals are received, they may have been reflected off buildings and the surrounding landscape. Reflections generate multi-path signals arriving with a small time delay at the receiver. This results in inaccurately calculated position.

To troubleshoot a signal issue we first suggest you reposition the device in the vehicle and allow it a couple minutes to recalibrate its new position. If there is no signal in the new position, step outside the vehicle with the unit. Perform a reset by pressing the reset button. (Found on the side or back of the device depending on your model) When the unit powers up, allow it a couple minutes to recalibrate its position. If the unit receives a single outside the vehicle but not inside, than there is something interfering with the GPS signal. Do you have a large windshield overhang? Do you have a dash camera? A satellite radio? We suggest turning off those devices to see if your unit will receive a signal.

Please call us if the unit continues to fail with receiving a signal after trying the above recommendations.

Intelliroute 520 wont connect to my pc

The answer to this question and many others can be found in the FAQ section on our support page at www.randmcnally.com/support. Additionally, for instructional videos on many of the TND & RVND features please visit the Rand McNally You Tube page at www.youtube.com/randmcnallyonline.

To troubleshoot a connectivity issue please try the following:

  1. Ensure the cable is secure on the device and computer. Disconnect and reconnect the device.
  2. If still not connecting and the cable is secure press the rest on the back of the device while connected to the computer.
  3. If a reset does not work then disconnect the device from the computer, wait at least 10 seconds and try another USB port on the computer.
  4. If another USB port does not resolve the issue disconnect the device, restart your computer, then connect the device.
  5. If all the above fails you can Reinstall the Device Driver. Navigate to the Device Manager on your computer. Please note this will vary based on the operating system you are using. Once at the Device Manager screen locate Universal Serial Bus Controllers. Click the arrow/triangle to the left of the Universal Serial Bus Controllers to expand the drop down list. If the device driver is the issue one of the items listed will say Unknown Device. Right click on Unknown Device and select uninstall. Once the uninstall has been completed, restart your computer with the device still connected.

If the device is not recognized after trying all these steps you will need to contact Technical Support for additional troubleshooting. To properly diagnose and correct a connectivity issue you will need to have the Rand McNally Dock Installed, a broadband internet connection and your device available to connect when instructed to do so. If these items are not available, we may not be able to resolve your issue.
