I cannot operate my Cub Cadet snowblower with the choke in the full open position. With the choke full open the engine surges a lot.

You need to close the choke off a bit till it just runs nice and smooth.

Thanks Noel, that's how I have been operating it this season. My machine is just over a year old. Didn't have to use it too much last winter. Today was the first time this season. I guess it is unlikely one of the carb adjustments needs correcting?

does not sound like you would have to do that when its run for a bit it might settle down but when running on full choke it will try and pull away from you..

I used my machine to blow out the driveway. About 30 minutes of work. Before shutting off the engine I tried opening the choke all the way and the engine started surging a lot. I expect it would have backfired if I left the choke full open. So I closed the choke a little bit and the engine calmed down.

thats good you have done the right thing.when it warms up just close the choke off and all should be ok.

That's my point. After 30minutes of operation I would have thought the engine was well warmed up.

then when you get it to that you can push the choke in then maybe you need to turn the tickover up just a bit just so it ticks over by its self.

This indicates the carburetor has a clogged jet or passage, rebuilt it.

How do I adjust the choke on cub cadet rzt-s

Generally there is a mechanical choke from the throttle linkage. The throttle may have slipped from the clamp at the carb. There will be a screw that holds it in place. Loosen this screw and move the throttle cable forward then retighten. You may have to remove the filter to see if the choke is closing at full throttle. This should help.

I have a 24" snowblower that surges after 1 minute of running, after 3-4 minutes stops and will not restart until several hours later, does the same thing over and over

This sounds like a choke issue. Do you have a choke on that engine?

The purpose of a choke is to allow for a varying air:fuel ratio depending on how hot the engine is. A cool engine needs a more rich mixture of fuel to air. Once the engine warms up, it runs best with more air. The Choke is a mechanism that allows the operator to manually adjust this mixture. Generally, the choke is closed to start a cold engine, then is opened in 2 or 3 stages as the engine warms up. As the operator, as the engine starts to run smoothly, you would actuate the choke to the next notch, changing the fuel:air ratio so more air is mixed in with the fuel. It's probably best to give the engine a few minutes to warm up while you progress through the choke stages until it's fully open providing the best mixture for operation prior to beginning to clear the snow.

If you follow that process and the engine stalls when the choke is opened, then you need to clean your carburetor.

Lt1050 black smoke after 15 minutes

The black smoke and black spark plugs indicate that the engine is running very rich (ie too much fuel). This could be caused by the choke not opening fully after the engine starts and the fuel mixture is too rich OR the fuel mixture setting is opened too far.
Check the choke lever, make sure the choke is fully open when the choke is in the running position.
When the engine is running with the throttle is in the 3/4 rev position then adjust the fuel mixture to get the highest RPM.

Check your magneto. I have had them cease to function whenever they would get hot. When cooled down, they would work.
