My cable remote does not have a CC or Caption button. When I press the Caption button on my TV remote, a window pops up telling me it's not available.

    I have cable thru Comcast.

  • phillip1985 Jul 21, 2009

I went through the audio setup. The "descriptive video service" was off. I unplugged the cable box for over 45 minutes. Nothing changed.

The cable box ia a Motorola HD Dual Tuner DVR, Model DCH3416 (DCH3416/6385/000/160). However, when I got home this afternoon, I connected the cable directly to my TV. The black rectangle was still there. I turned on the "Close Caption" with the remote. The caption worked. Occasionally, the words were blocked by the black section of the screen. I turned the caption on and off several times, eventually turning it off. The rectangle remained on the screen the entire time. I turned off the TV for 45 minutes, reconnected the cable box, the black rectangle is still there.

Yes. It shows up on all input settings (TV, HDMI 1&2, AV &S-Video) that I have used to date.

You have the textbook case of screen failure. Either start working on the corresponding boards to your failure location (upper right), or shell out for a new TV. Actually sometimes it could be as simple as a loose cable to one of those boards, but I would think the screen itself will need to get replaced. If it is still under warranty, then don't even attempt to open it as that will void the warranty, otherwise if you have no electrical expertise, then I would advise that you get someone who has worked on these tvs to have a look at it. Let me know how this works out.

Your closed caption is on, this could be on in the tvs setting or the cable/sat box settings. Change the setting to "off" on both the tv and the box and it should be gone. This happens alot when the tv remote is sat on or little hands get it, you should have a button right on the remote labled CC or caption, try this first before going into settings

If you dont have the button then you will have to turn off closed caption from the menu system

  • John Riley Jul 20, 2009

Are you runing the set on cable or satallite, and what company

  • John Riley Jul 20, 2009

OK, with comcast you can turn off the closed caption from the audio set up menu. Or you can reset your cable box and that will fixya. Unplug the cable box for 45 min and that should do it

  • John Riley Jul 21, 2009

I will need the model # of your cable box,

If you ran the set with the cable box not hooked in and still got the box this will bring us back to the TV. Does the black box show on other inputs?

My samsun fp-t5084 is making a loud whining noise

its either a fan going out or power transformer. take the panel off and turn on the unit while being careful not to touch anything at all while power is to the device. plug it in and listen so you can identify the component. If its a transformer (it would more than likely be square and wrapped in a thick polymer sheeting.) it will be fine, possible for good. If its the fan making noise, you will typically have 9-12mths from the time you first here the sound before the perfomance is affected.

SO, to make a long story short, a hummming sound is typically the sound of electrical variations in a component, whining is normally a rubbing action within metal and plastic components.

(plastic on plastic makes a squeek, metal on metal a higher pitched squeek)

Below is the service manual link from epox. ftp://ftp.epox.com/downloads/Manual/mu-8KDA3J&+11.pdf

This is usually a switchmode power supply problem, and it's shutting down, for safety reasons, so as to avoid a fire and explosion or both. Realistically you need to get a "Quote" from an authorised service agent, for repair.

No power to Samsung FP-T5084

I had the same problem twice with my Samsung FPT 5084 and it was the 12 AMP fuse on the power board both times. The bad part is you have to remove the whole back plate to get to it but once off it sits on the power board (dead center) towards the lower left hand side of it. Replace the top fuse or you can replace both. They're just regular ceramic sealed 12 AMP fuses that cost about 50 cents each.

Dark Translucent Rectangle appears in front of picture

Go into the customer menu and find the "closed captions" heading. Within the closed caption you will find "TEXT". If you turn off closed captions or the text, whichever you menu lets you do, your rectangle will go away. Hope this helps

Panasonic TH58PX600U 58 in. HDTV Plasma. Image is Distorted

I could not see the image you say you included in your description. If the rectangle is black (and not just an outline) it may be the box associated with captioning or text descriptions. Use your setup menu or remote control to turn captioning/text off.

Black Rectangles on 42" Vizio HDTV LCD

Your DirecTV signal is probably too low. That would produce the small black rectangles (pixilation). Also, try replacing the cable you are using to get the signal from the DirecTV receiver.
