If it is a hydro or automatic it sounds like you need to check fluid levels, if manual trans you may need a clutch or clutch adjust

    Thank you for your help

I hope it did help, further test if it is manual trans. To check to see if clutch is slipping edge up to a stump or some such stable object like a pile of dirt that will not move, put it in first and release the clutch at idle. If the clutch is good it should stall the tractor.

I got the tractor for my son and it is a hydro should I still check the clutch that way

No only for clutch type, First thing on a hydro would be check for low fluid, clogged filter or lever slipped and not moving far enough. After that things get expensive.

Riding Lawn Tractors with Hydrostatic Transmission Tip of the Year

Hello everyone! IF you have a riding mower or tractor with hydrostatic transmission you are going to love this insider's tip. Slightly overfill the transmission. Always keep the fluid level about 1/4 inch above the full line on the dipstick. Once you have done this you will instantly notice that the tractor has more speed in forward and reverse. You will also notice that it has more power when mowing up hill. Doing this solved several problems I was having with low power and also slow reverse. I had adjusted the linkage but it did not solve my problem, adding the additional transmission fluid did. Enjoy your more responsive tractor! Joe

My lt1000 will move slowly in reverse and when going up an incline you have to move the shifter around to make it keep moving ,any ideas on what the problem is?

This may be normal. slow in reverse is normal. Up a hill, if you are talking about keeping forward on the lever, this is normal. If you are talking about moving it fore and aft or left and right to get up a hill, needs adjustment.

Hi, don't know if you have checked this but anyway if you hydraulic oil filter is clean there may be another sintered bronze filter in the sump of the hydraulic tank this could be patially blocked> don't know this particular machine but if it is partially blocked it may be that you will clean that or there is air in the hydraulic system. Hope this is of some help.

Mower slips in and out of forward gear but rides perfect in reverse; What do I need to adjust?

Reverse is a different gear set than forward gears. Sounds like forward gear set has a broken tooth. Not an easy fix.

Tractor will not go in forward gear, only reverse.

Try rocking the mower forward and backward while you try to shift it.

Will not go into gear

a hydro uses a foot pedal on the right side , you push forward to go forward or rock the pedal rearward to go in reverse - a regular transmission has a shifter usually between your legs for reverse 1st 2nd or 3rd gear - you also said the blades wont engage . are they electric ( with a switch ) or do you manually move a lever .
