I have a misfire in cylinder #1. I have had the spark plugs, wires. coil pack, and upper intake gaskets replaced and the engine still has a misfire in cylinder #1. When I replaced the coil pack it was ok for about a month. I tried the Lucas fuel injector cleaner and it seems to be fine until the gas runs out. If I don't use it again my engine starts sputtering. Oh, I forgot to mention that my engine sputters really bad. The engine light is on as well. Could this be a dirty injector and if I continue to use Lucas cleaner will it clean all the junk out of my injectors? Like I said it seems to be working. Please help! Thanks.... kthompson

What is the misfire code?

If it is a specific cylinder try swapping the injector with another cylinder. If the misfire follows the injector to the other cylinder than you know the injector is bad. If it doesn't follow than I would be checking compression on that cylinder.

What is the firing order on the distributor cap on my 1997 Grand Cherokee

For the 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee:
I do not know if you have the 4.0L In-Line 6-Cylinder or the 5.2L V8, however I have included both below:

For the 4.0L In-Line 6-Cylinder:
Firing Order:
1-5-3-6-2-4
Cylinders:
(back)
...6
...5
...4
...3
...2
...1
(front)

Distributor:
....(back)
.....5....3..(+)-screw
1.............6
(+).4....2

For the 5.2L V8: (Side Note 5.9L V8 = Same)
Firing Order:
1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2
Cylinders:
.......(back).......
|..8..|.........|..7..|
|..6..|.........|..5..|
|..4..|.........|..3..|
|..2..|.........|..1..|
.......(front)
Distributor:
.....(back)
.........3
....4........6..(+)-rounded tab screw
8................5
[ ].1.........7
.........2
......(front)

1999 jeep cherokee 6 cylinder engine light

1.Plugs
2. Vacuum leak
3. Injector fault
4. High or low fuel pressure.
Thats the list of things to check.
This is a #3 cylinder misfire.
There is also TSB about #3 injector needing added heat protection. This could definitely be the cause. I start at plugs and go from there.
Hope this helps.
Thank you,
Lee
