SOURCE: hi i have a toshiba
Lets start at the first step here
If you are running any version of windows:
Step 1: in the bottom right corner (near the clock) there is an icon that looks like a speaker. Lets first make sure the sound is up all the way by clicking on the icon once & then turning it up ALSO while you are on that icon make sure the sound isnt muted. there will be a little check box on this sound menu that pops up when you click on the speaker icon (near the clock).
Step 2: assuming the volume is now all the way up and we checked to make sure the volume isnt muted, according to toshiba's website I looked up you model number that you gave me thanks by the way, and they suggest pressing the FN (function) key plus the Esc (escape) key together to make sure the sound isnt disabled or muted.
I am going to leave you two links one to the toshiba user manual for your specific computer, and another for the downloads and support page for your specific laptop, if those obvious things are the problem with the sound there are other things we can do such as updating sound drivers and checking the settings in the control panel to see if some how the sound has been disabled, also we can check the device manager in the control panel to see if we can test the sound card to see if its working. I am hoping the steps i listed above will help. if not please let me know i wil continue on with more touble shooting
This link below is to your user Manual for your Laptop:
This Link is a the Downloads & Drivers page for your laptop which includes many sound drivers.
If the steps above dont work your sound card may have quit working, a few questions
what operating system are you running such as
windows xp, windows vista, linux, leopard?
also have you ever heard sound from this laptop?
