Question about Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition SP3 for PC

3 Answers

Hi, I am a NOVICE PC user & I searched but couldn't find the forum I needed to post my question and or PC problems in. My OS is Windows XP Home Edition SP3 with IE7. (Installed IE8 but it wouldn't run) so I went back to IE7. I use Windows Firewall and I recently upgraded my Security from Avanquest Fix-it Utilities 8 to Avanquest System Suite 9. I have DSL HighSpeed & my ISP is QWEST with MSN Browser which I use as my Home Page. I am completely NOVICE with the configurations and settings under all Tabs in Internet Properties (General through Advanced). I do not know what to enable or disable and or what to check or uncheck. My problems: I never had problems when playing at POGO before but now I get a pop-up error: In order to play Pogo games you need to install the latest version of Java Plug-in,(which I already have). So I verify & tested & I do have the latest version, but I still get the same error when clicking a game. So maybe my settings are not correct. Also, when I am on the Internet my PC sometimes reboots by itself then it will disconnect me from the internet about every 20 to 30 minutes with a Pop-up Error: MSN was unable to load a required library msnmetal.dll; with then, another Pop-up Error: Windows Delayed Write Failed: Windows was unable to save all the data for the file...data has been lost. May be caused by a failure of your hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere. Then, my mouse freezes and I have to reboot. After rebooting; I went to the Control Panel, clicked on the Add/Remove Icon to uninstall Avanquest Sys. Suite 9 because I thought this may be the problem. However, the Add/Remove Page only opened for a split second then I was taken back to the Control Panel. Now I can't add/remove programs. I rebooted again & ran a deep scan for any AV and or AS using Avanquest System Suite 9. When it finished scanning, it reported: No Problems Found (which I didn't believe). That is when I Shut Down my PC and will not turned it back on until I get some advice and support from this forum on How-to fix it & or troubleshoot. I am now using my daughter's VISTA PC which runs great with no problems. THANK-YOU, HOPE TO HEAR FROM YOU! Sincerely, Bonnie Lou

It sounds like a spyware/virus problem. I have had great success with Symantec’s Norton internet security center 2009. I have handled firewall, virus, and spyware issues for all my clients. You might download a 15 day trial and cleanup you computer and then decide if it’s worth buying. After installing it you may have to boot in “safe mode” to stop the interfering with the cleanup. To enter “safe mode” press the F8 key as the computer starts up and it will be an option. I hope I have been of some help. Good Luck

Go to start menu, then go to run, then type regedit, then hit enter. THis will bring you to your registry, go down to HKEY Current User and expand the boxes, go to software, find your program and delete it.
Also do this under the Hkey Local Machine.

I also recommend to everyone to use a free program called glary utilities. It has registry cleaners, optimizers, delete folders, spyware removal, addware removal, trojoan removal,.
And the best free security system called Avast Security.

Restore IBM Thinkpad R500 Windows Vista to factory settings, erasing all passwords

You need a recovery disc for this operation. If you're any good with computers at all, and do not do this lightly, you can download dukes ban. Again this is not for novice pc users. This will literally and completely wipe your entire computer. Nothing will be recoverable and you will have to set everything. even the Hard Drive sizes. You will then need an OS disc like windows vista, windows 7, windows xp, etc and reload the entire OS back onto the hard drive.

I want creative sound blaster live Ct4780 drivers

Hi,

I found this on the Creative forums posted by a Creative Forum Moderator:

http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/download.asp?DriverLang=1033&searchString=LiveDrvUni-Pack%28ENG%29.exe&Image1.x=22&Image1.y=8

It says Windows 2000/XP, but it will most likely be fine for Vista too.

Will there be any problem if i install windows xp on my sony VGN-FZ430E? i recently install windows 7 but the built-in webcam won't workand there is no available driver download that works.

Hi,

I went looking for info on your notebook and I found a full compliment of drivers for Windows Vista, Windows 7 x32 bit & Windows 7 x64 bit Operating Systems (OS). There are camera drivers available for all OSes listed. There are NO drivers for any other OS - including Windows XP. That tells me that there is no driver for the camera and no support for the notebook when running Windows XP. The site also indicates there is no support for any other OS than those listed, too. I suggest that you download the latest drivers from the links I provided above and try once more.

If you are having difficulty with your camera in a supported OS with the drivers that are available, you might try posting a question on Sony's Online Forum. Here, you be connected to other Sony product users that may have already done what you are trying to accomplish. They can probably help you a great deal as I suspect running Win XP on your notebook wouldn't be too hard - and they may have sources for drivers that will work with your hardware. If you're not getting the help you need, you should contact Sony Support.

I hope this helps & good luck! Please rate my reply. Thank you.

How to download a free window xp service pack 3?

If you're looking for just the Service Pack, Windows provides it to the users free of charge and is available for download at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=5b33b5a8-5e76-401f-be08-1e1555d4f3d4&displaylang=en
If you're looking for the OS itself, you'll have to purchase from a retailer such as Newegg.

Windows XP drivers for Sony VAIO Laptop

There is no easy answer for this type of question, unfortunately. The best I can do is offer some advice. While installing XP is always possible, and most of the time preferred by the user, not all of the hardware will work every time with every computer. That's just a disclaimer. I think this thread may be useful to you: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=128804
