Pump is jammed if it is getting hot. You need to remove it and take it apart. Something is stuck in it. Or at least see if you can turn it by hand?

So can you watch the motor spinning it or not? Normally, the pump is connected to the motor by a short flexible drive. If the motor spins the pump, the pump should pump water. The only other possibility is that the impeller inside is worn or broken.

After saying that, I had a strange thing with a Miele that wouldn't pump properly. I attached a hose pipe to the end of the drain pipe, wrapped it with a towel and turned he tap on forcing water into the machine. Then I lowered the pipe into a bucket and all sorts of fluff came out. Then I did it again, and let the machine pump. It worked great again. When I removed the filter, there was an apple stalk in there which had lodged in the pipe or the pump causing fluff to block it.

It looks as if you can unscrew the front of the pump.

Great. a picture, well done. The big part at the front, that is the filter where you found the change. If you unscrew that and feel to the right where that other cylindrical piece is, that is where the impeller is. If that turns, then you know it isn't jammed, but you also need to confirm it is attached to the motor. With the Miele, when you turned the machine on, it spun the impeller to verify the machine was empty. You need to find a way of working that out. As you said the motor was hot, it may be that the motor is the fault and in fact, you need a new one, pump and motor complete? If the motor hums as well as getting hot, it is faulty.

SOURCE: water will not drain from

Hi.

You need to access drain pump and check drain hose at the back. There are also a couple of parts to be tested. For those you may want to call a technician.

The access to the drain filter should be located at the front bottom side of the appliance, behind a protective trim. In there you should find a cap that can be unscrewed to release water and remove blockage. Have a container ready to collect water. If there is no access in front, then access is at the back (uncommon).

If there is no blockage at pump, check the hose at the back.
Ensure that the height of the hose elbow is respecting the specifications indicated in manual. Check that the top of drain hose is not lower than 30" (760 mm) . A wrongly placed hose will result in water going in the washer drain pump and tub, causing drain problems and no spin.

To start and complete drain part of the cycle, the electronic control checks the input from pressure switch (which detects water level) before advancing to spin part of the cycle. The pressure switch is a round shaped parts connected to a long rubber hose that goes inside the tub. The switch and hose must be cleaned or replaced. Pressure switch is located in the control assembly.
Access the control panel and clean the hose attached to the pressure switch.

Also check the lid is closing well.
If lid switch and drain lines are OK, replace the pressure switch, which is difficult to test (it is tested reading impedance with tub full and empty. Before replacing the switch, you can try cleaning it and blowing into the switch pipe. Check also motor before replacing the switch. The switch is connected to a long rubber hose and it is located in the control panel.

Below an article about the no spin problem. If the problem is coming with no drain, check drain filter, drain hose at the back. If they are OK, the pressure switch may need to be replaced or the pump may be defective.

Here the general troubleshooting for no spin: If you have no spin there may be different reasons behind the problem.

SOURCE: I have a Amana tandem 7300 it starts beeping and stops working

It is possible that the machine does not start off the cycle because there are errors due to feedback from the inputs. For the program to start up the main program controller must initiate the INLET/MOTOR/DRAIN pump/ valve to open up and allow each function to be driven starting from the flow of water into the drum as also the drain valve to open to exit the water at the point of the program cycle. If this does not happen then the voltage at the valve/motor/pump must be checked or the fault relates to no voltage from the controller. This means the controller is a suspect.

If the water flows though the inlet then the flow pressure should be good, if not the inlet valve is bad or there is dirt in the filter. Also check the flow at the inlet of the water line. Once the water comes into the system the WATER LEVEL SENSOR - normally a pressure switch- must activate at the preset/chosen level to give the signal to the program controller to switch on the motor. What is most important for the motor to start functioning is that the door switch must be ON when the door is shut or this will be an error for starting the motor for rinse and wash.

Check this link to replace the inlet valve:

http://www.espares.co.uk/advice/washing-machines/a/7/1408/how-to-replace-the-inlet-valve-on-a-washer-dr.html

Finally after the wash the drain valve will be activated, the water is allowed to come in to rinse and then finally the dry spin with the drain valve/pump activated so as to drain off all the water from the clothes during the spin.

Make sure that a fault in any of the cycle will relate to the specified action, so check the command from the program module and then the executing device be it the valve or motor or pump.

I have a built in hotpoint bwd129 and it wont empty or spin yesterday it did the same and i drained the waste sump plug and there was somethink blocking it after this it worked finre then today i put some...

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,

I believe the 'sump plug' to which you refer is actually the cover over the drain filter which should be removable for clearing/cleaning on a regular basis!

I would gently suggest as a first step that you clean the drain motor/pump lint tray/filter. So many 'faults' are caused by blocked filters and many machines will not even go to rinse or spin or release the door lock if there is any water still left inside.
Following are my complete and hopefully 'coverall' pre-typed guidance notes for checking both the drain motor filter and the drain motor ;-0)
REMOVE POWER AND ENSURE YOU HAVE A WATER RECEPTACLE/RAGS TO SOAK UP THE WATER WHICH IS BOUND TO POUR OUT (alternatively use a wet vac as sensibly suggested by VinnyB1234!)
If you are unsure where the filter is, it is often behind the front lower (kick) panel (or in some machines at the rear in an awkward position!). These panels are either held on by (plasic) screws or will just pull off. Most filters are held in by a round cover/knob. Sometimes the filter will not come out with the cover and you will have to persuade it to come out to play.
It's surprising what people have found in theirs! It is always worthwhile checking it on a regular basis.
Now- whilst the filter is removed it is normally possible to see the drain motor and ensure it is not jammed by a foreign object such as a needle or a toothpick. It should be able to be turned by hand/finger- the power IS OFF!
At this point it is also possible to test if the motor works. No clothes or water in the machine, select a spin cycle and put the power back on. You should be able to see the motor turning at some point, possibly straight away. Using something suitable like a glove see if it is easy to briefly slow the motor down. If it is easy then the motor is malfunctioning.

If this has assisted you please consider a 4 thumbs up for the rating.
Thanks and good luck!

I have a 20,000 gal in ground pool w/ Hayward 36 sq ft de upright filter, Hayward Vari-Flo valve. Actual suction at the skimmer has gotten very weak, (filters and traps clean) It does better in...

You say that you can see a large flow through the pump cover but that water must be coming from the pool somehow. It must be coming through the main drain. If you turn the main drain off then the flow from the skimmer should increase considerably. If it doesn't the issue could be caused by a nearly plugged line between the skimmer basket and the pump. I have had similar symptoms and I started by using a drain jet device on a hose to force water backwards from the pump to the skimmer with the main drain valve turned off. I couldn't clear the plug so I had to dig the line up and found a bad area of the piping where it made a reduced pipe size 90 degree turn. Sycamore bark, leaves and twigs were stuck at that pinch point.

I hope this helps.

Hello You have to cut the pipe and blow out each end,You can use a 1"rubber hose from an auto parts store & 2 hose clamps, If you can't find the end. This will allow access in the future to clean out the pipes. It will slip over 3/4" PVC pipe. They sell a PVC pipe cutter but a hacksaw blade works well.Get ready for all the water in the pan once you cut!

Water leak from under door

When your refer defrosts a couple times a day it produces about a quarter of a cup of water each time. This occurs in the freezer section. The water travels down a drain pipe (or tube) that leads to a drian pan in the bottom of the unit. It is collected and evaporates from the heat of the motor.
If the drain is plugged water will form inside the unit itself. If the drain tube has somehow moved and not allowing the water to collect in the drain pan it will go on the floor.Either way,if the drain is the problem the amount of water should be pretty small, no more than a cup or two.If you have an icemaker or ice and water through the door and the amount of water on the floor is more than a cup or two. I would find the water shutoff for the supply line(probably behind the unit in newer homes)and turn it off.Clean up the water and wait a day.If the water goes away assume that one of the plastic lines in the unit that carries water to the icemaker or door is leaking. If the water continues I would suspect the drain. The only way to check the drain is to unplug the unit and remove the cardboard back, locate the drain pan and see if water is present and that the drain line is in it's proper place.
If one of the water lines is leaking you will most likely need a service tech.
Also it's best to turn the icemaker off by lifting the arm or switch before you turn the water off for testing.

Really cheap and dirty trick!!!
Pull off the pipe from one of the the jets, Take a glass full of water and take a swig, blow this water DOWN the pipe, effectively reverse flushing the pump and sending the debris back out of the filter, flush the bottle again afterwards and refill with water/fluid

Bosch 1400 Exxpress washing machine : Turning off after a few sec

1. Switch off the machine and disconnect the mains power.
2. Remove the filter and make sure that the filter is not blocked and is clean and clear of all debris. Clean as required. Note that depending on the machine type you may get a lot of water coming out of the filter when you remove it if the machine has not drained successfully. Note that if the machine has stopped and not fully drained then you may be able to drain out the excess water by removing or disconnecting the waste hose and laying it on the ground in a tray.
3. Proceed by checking the drain hose for proper connection and kinks and make sure that it is not blocked.
4. Also check that the main waste drain pipe, if you use one, is not blocked and clean if required.
5. Reconnect the power and switch the machine on.
If the problem persists then do the following.
6. Switch off the machine and disconnect the mains power.
7. Check the electrical connections at the pump and make sure it is operational.
8. Remove the connecting hoses, and expect water to drain out and make sure the pipes are not blocked with debris or any object blockage.
9. Makes sure the pump appears clear and that the impeller looks in good condition.
10. Reconnect the hoses and then reconnect power and switch the machine on.
11. If problem has not been corrected, then remove the pump and check that the drive coupling to the motor is OK and that the motor turns OK. If all is well then replace the pump.

Model 70 clothes washer, cold water comes in extremely slowly, I need a diagram to show me where/how to clean the entry filter, please. I don't have a manuel for this old but very good machine. Thanks

Shut off cold water supply to machine. On the back of your machine where the cold water inlet line connects the machine. Remove the cold water hose (I recomend doing both hot and cold to ensure the the hot is clear while you are there). look inside the threaded hose connection on the machine water inlets on the back where you removed the hose(s). There are small screnes inside the fitting and can be removed with a small screwdriver. Simply rinse them out and reinstall them. Some hoses have a screne in the ends. I recomend removing your drain hose (the discharge) from the sewer and open the water fauscett and flush the homes lines and inlet hoses into the drain pipe (no mess or water on the floor). This also insures good water flow to your machine. reinstall hoses... Should fixya!

Bosch intelligent frost free 40

The small drain pipe on the back of the fridge gets clogged, hence no drainage when defrosting, hence ice blocks the airflow between the freezer compartment and the fridge compartment.
Remove the rubber stop from the drain pipe and clean (can be found above the motor)
Defrost the fridge for a few days (it takes at least 48 hours). During this time, if you are not brave enough to remove the internal panels of the freezer and continually clean the water, check for water coming out and clean.
If during the defrost there is no water coming out the drain pipe, use about 2m of flexible and strong wire to clean the pipe.
The aim is to unblock the pipe once the ice has melted.
