Question about Samsung SyncMaster 920NW Monitor

2 Answers

I'm trying to help a handicapped friend of mine with his monitor/computer problem. He has a Samsung 920 NW monitor. The computer boots up but the monitor immediately goes black. The blue on/off button on the monitor is not blinking. I can turn the monitor off then right back on and see the screen for about 1 second when the screen goes black again. Help?

Here's a good link to a troubleshooting guide for monitor problems that may help you to correctly diagnose the cause. Another article and other links here as well) I'd hook the monitor up to another system for starters to see if it works there...
Be sure to check the monitor cable. And if another monitor works on the same system but that one doesn't, check that the settings are all correct for that monitor, including resolution, refresh rates, etc.
This could be also the result of some kind of hardware conflict at boot, a bad graphic card or outdated driver (in which case here's a tutorial to help you update the driver), or even malware in the system, in which case I recommend you follow these protocols to scan for and remove the malware....
And sometimes monitors just wear out, particularly if they're not setup to run in optimum conditions...
Good luck!

This type of problem is caused by a failure of the filter capacitors on the power supply board. The board is easily repairable, you just need to replace the defective capacitors. It will require a little soldering but anyone can do it. Here is a link to a repair guide showing how to repair the board and what parts and tools will be needed to complete the repair. I hope this helps you out.

When you tried the replacement monitor, did you have the pc turned off when you connected it, if not then restart the pc and it may work. I realise you probably already have but I don't have that info.

Anyway try both monitors with a computer that is known to work properly (make sure it's off when you plug them in), if both monitors don't work then it's a monitor prob, if one does and the other doesn't then you know one monitor isn't working and if you still can't get the other one to work with your pc then it would suggest that you also have a video problem.

Sounds like the original monitor may have a prob with the inverter or control board, it may even be some bad caps or even a switch (unlikely but possible), but it could be explained by a video problem. So narrowing down where the problem is, is the first step.

Hope this helps you out. Once you've found out where the problem is, you could post back and see if someone on here can help you fix it.

Here's a link, in case you find out it is monitor related, it would help with all the possibilities I mentioned.

I have installed Windows 7 in my Pc with the monitor Sync Master 920 NW and the maximum resolution available 1280 X 768 when the max resolution of the monitor is 1440 x 1024.

Download the correct graphics driver.
If you have a Graphics card, download the driver from either Nvidia or ATI.
If your graphics chip is on the motherboard, download the driver from your manufacturers support page

hi im josh in cebu phils.may i help you friend? just try this solutions o mine this will help you.
ry re-seating the video cable. Try another monitor on this computer if you have one available. Try this monitor on another computer. That will narrow down where the problem lies. It's either the video card or the monitor which is bad. Of course if either is under warranty you may get a replacement, if not get your credit card ready :-)
I would also look at the cable connection and see if there are any bent pins. This has caused issues for me in the past. Just be careful rebending the pins if any are bent. They are fragile and may snap off. good luck friend
