Pilot light on heater wont stay lite

  • A Weak Burning Flame - if the color of your pilot light flame is not a bright blue color, most notably (yellowish in color), then there is something that's causing your pilot light to burn at an inconsistent or inefficient rate. When this happens your furnace is programmed to shut off the gas valve, causing your pilot light to shut off.
  • The Buildup of Dirt or Debris Around The Pilot Light - Over the years it's easy for dust, debris, and dirt to build up on the inside of the intake valve where the pilot light resides. This makes it difficult for the flame to breath and as a result causes the pilot light to go out suddenly. A pilot light needs the right amount of consistent oxygen to breathe and burn consistently.
  • A Broken or Damaged Thermocouple - In this instance there is something wrong with the equipment and a technician would be required to replace or repair the thermocouple in order for your pilot light to stay lit again. If your pilot light continues to go out on a weekly basis, and you have exhausted all other possible causes, give Wilson Oil and Propane a call and we will have a technician sent to your home right away.

Hi The pilot light when out and the oven has stop working does the pilot light double as a fuse ?? BSO 6000

No. The pilot light uses a thermocouple(safety device) to let the main gas valve know that the pilot is lit so that the main gas valve can operate safely by not letting the main gas valve turn on without a lit pilot light. This way, in no way can the main gas valve turn on until the heat from the pilot light causes the thermocouple to produce an electrical current which allows the main gas valve to operate when the thermostat switch closes.

How do i turn down the pilot light on a calor gas heater?

The pilot nozzle is replaceable but pilot light is not adjustable.

A big pilot light can be caused by a high gas pressure.

Why won't the pilot light stay lit?

You have a "pilot generator" that sits in the flame of the pilot light. This generates a low voltage output from the flame of the pilot light. This voltage goes to the gas valve and tells the valve that the pilot is lit and to keep the pilot gas line open.
In almost all cases replacing the pilot generator will resolve the issue . They run about $60-$75.
Other causes may be the gas valve itself or a short in the safety loop, in either case should be looked at by a pool tech.

Pilot light won't stay lit.

most common cause of the described symptom overheating the thermocouple! a thermocouple produces millivolts of electricity based upon a differential of temperature between the tip and the base. If it gets too hot it will not work correctly. If the pilot flame is too large or the main burner flame is contacting the thermocouple or the thermocouple is too cheap or old all can cause this issue.

Waterheater pilot light keeps going out

There are several things that can cause this, but the most likely cause is a dirty pilot light orifice, causing the pilot light to have a smaller weaker flame than it was designed for. This produces a weak flame that is easily susceptable to drafts, and a lower holding temperature on your safety capillary tube that controls the gas shutoff safety valve.
The orifice can be removed and cleaned on some models, removed and replaced on others. I would suggest a qualified serviceman be called, because gas service is usually beyond a typical handyman's area of expertise, and safety is a very important issue here.

The pilot orifice could be dirty causing the pilot flame to be too small. Unscrew the pilot tube at the pilot assembly. The orifice is inside. Remove the orifice and blow it out with compressed air only. Reassemble and see if that fixes the problem. If the pilot flame is set too low, sometimes opening a door will cause a draft to blow out the pilot. If the thermocouple is good and the pilot flame is set properly, the control valve may be bad.
