SOURCE: there is a square piece

This is the waveguide cover, and it's actually made of plastic or mica.

It is very important - it protects the magnetron and waveguide from grease and food particles, which - if allowed to build up - can cause arcing and damage.

The metal edges of the oven behind it can be sharp, so be careful!

The cover and the metal behind it should be cleaned with a mild, non-ammonia cleaner.

If the cavity metal of the oven is chipped or charred, it will have to be sanded smooth and clean and dried thoroughly.

Then you can apply some high-temperature appliance paint, available from places like Wal-Mart, Lowe's or Builder's Square.

If your waveguide cover is burned or damaged, it will need to be replaced.

SOURCE: arcing inside microwave

unless you are familiar with these, leave it alone. Over time small particles of food become carbonized inside the oven, hence the electrical display. the solution is to clean it after every use.

SOURCE: On the inside top right side of the microwave

That's the waveguide cover.

If your waveguide cover is burned or damaged, it will need to be replaced.

It provides critical protection for the magnetron.

SOURCE: my emerson microwave #mw8999rd shoots out fire from a silver piece of cardboard thats on the righthand inside of my microwave oven. whats with that?

The silver piece of cardboard would be a sheet of mica, which lets the microwaves through, but doesn't get hot itself. If it shoots flames out, it must have had some fat or other material collect or condense on it, and that will heat up and can catch fire. Just replace it with another sheet of mica, you can get it from electronics supply places. It might need cutting to size, tin snips or heavy scissors will work, or a fine toothed saw.

There is electrical problem in your microwave heating circuit. This is a fire hazard and you should stop using this microwave and unplug from the outlet. This is not something you can fix and the fuse does not protect your system anymore. The best choice is to purchase a new one and throw this away.

For the sunbeam microwave sgb8901, do you take off the cover over the oven air vent? It's inside the oven on the right hand side- it looks like a rectanglar silver colored piece of cardboard.

I am also having this same problem i dont know the solution yet, but when you figure it out please let me know, or if i figure out i will repost =]

It sounds like what you are describing is called a "waveguide cover". You can purchase a replacement from a local parts supplier, or on-line at www.repairclinic.com. It is very easy to replace.
