Upside down stitching

Am having a difficult time picturing this. Sounds like the upper thread is creating loops under the fabric and the bobbin thread is showing on the top of the fabric.

Make sure to use a brand new needle.

Remove the thread from the machine
ALWAYS raise the presser foot and rethread the upper thread.
Make sure the thread path is correct.

Check that the bobbin is turning the correct direction in the bobbin case and the bobbin thread is threaded through the bobbin tension correctly.

Set the upper tension to the midway point (factory standard), however, this setting may need to be tweaked for your particular machine.

Bring the bobbin to the top of the project Before beginning to stitch.
How and Why to Bring up the Bobbin Thread

Retest--begin sewing slowly.

If the upper thread is still showing on the other side of the fabric, the tension is too loose. If it is pulling the bobbin thread up to the top of the fabric, the upper tension is too tight

OR the bobbin thread tension is too loose. (CAUTION: make only small adjustments to bobbin tension--1/8 of a turn at a time!!! It also helps to mark the screw groove location with magic marker on the bobbin case BEFORE making any changes so you can back it out and return to the original setting.)

Top thread showing on bottom using pe500

First, remove the upper thread. RAISE the presser foot and rethread the upper thread making sure the path is correct.

Retest the stitch. The tension is correct, both threads should meet in the middle of the fabric. If the upper thread is still showing under the fabric, slightly tighten the upper tension. Keep adjusting until the threads are where you'd like them.

Why is the stitching on the bobbin side of soft fabric uneven

Is it the upper thread that is looping under the fabric? If so, that's what is called thread nesting or bird nesting. It is usually caused by it not being threaded correctly or the tension is off. Most likely, it is because the thread is either not in all the guides, the thread path is incorrect (it may have jumped out of the take-up lever), OR (most frequently) the thread is not completely seated in the tension disk.

#1--install a brand new needle that is compatible with the thread & fabric you are sewing. All About Needles

#2--remove the upper thread. Always raise the presser foot and rethread from the beginning making sure to follow all the guides and the thread pathway.

Set the upper tension to the midway point between high & low number and test. Re-adjust tension as needed. If the upper thread is showing too much on the underside of the fabric, the upper tension is too loose. If bobbin thread is showing on the top, then upper tension is too tight. Correct tension is when both upper & bobbin threads meet in the middle.

Why is the bobbin thread bunching up?

if your saying that your bobbin thread is balling up under the platen plate , this is a sure sign that your top thread tension is not correct and there isn't enough tension to pull the bobbin thread up from below

The bobbin thread shows to the front. Does the bobbin or thread tension need adjusted

Generally, tension adjustments are made using the upper thread tension. Most likely the upper tension is set too tight and is pulling the bobbin thread up. Loosen the upper tension and try again. Tension is accurate when the upper thread and bobbin thread meet in the middle of the fabric. Whenever fabric, thread & needle are changed, there may be a need to adjust the upper tension.

HINT: When threading the upper thread, make sure the presser foot is RAISED during threading to make sure the upper tension disks are open and the thread seats properly.

Bobbin tension is only adjusted when the tensions are way out of whack. Only slight turns of the bobbin case tension screw are made in graduated movements and testing occurs after each adjustment.

How do you adjust or set the tensions

Make sure you raise the presser foot BEFORE threading the upper thread so it will seat properly in the tension disk.

The factory standard tension setting is the halfway point between the low & high numbers. Be sure you are using needle & thread that are compatible with each other and the fabric you are sewing.
All About Needles

Test your stitch on the fabric you are sewing. If the upper thread is showing on the bottom of the fabric, the upper tension is too loose. If the bobbin thread is showing on the top of the fabric, the upper tension is too tight.

Ideal tension is when both upper and bobbin threads meet in the middle of the fabric. The tension will need adjusting anytime you change fabric weight, needle size, and thread weight.

I can not get the tension right - the manual is not helpful at all - please help?

Be sure to RAISE the presser foot BEFORE threading the upper tension. This releases the tension disks so the thread will seat properly.

Start out with the upper tension set at the mid-point. This is generally the factory setting. Then test and adjust. If the thread shows loops under the fabric, the upper tension is too loose. If the bobbin thread is showing on the top of the fabric, the upper tension is too tight. Test and adjust until the top and bottom threads meet in the middle of the fabric.
