Check the remote control for its infrared emission. Check it with fresh batteries. Check it by pressing all the keys. You can detect the presence of infra-red emission from the remote control, using a cell-phone camera. If you wish to get more details about how to check a remote control, please visit this site. One among the posts has details about it. Surf the site with patience. In some cases, the remote control might need to clean.

My remotes won't work. Apparently the remote sensor is not working. This TV does not have a remote in plug on the back. Any ideas?

I have the same TV, but I don't understand what you mean about 'both remotes' or 'remote in plug on the back'. Do you mean a smart remote, the receiver for which connects via the USB?

The original remote uses the IR receiver on the TV. The smart remote only uses IR for the On/Off function; all other controls go via USB.

It is possible that the IR receiver in the TV has failed (I have replaced several on other devices). This is a cheap component, easily replaced by a competent solderer.

Try removing batteries from the remote, pressing all buttons to unstick a stuck buttton, reinstalling batteries, and testing operation. Also, something may have gone wrong when you were setting the remote to control your TV. If no corrective action works, the remote may have failed prematurely.

Remove the batteries from the remote, unplug the Power to the TV, reinstall remote batteries taking care the polarity of the batteries in case the kids monkeyed with them and then plug the power cord back into the TV.
If that fails, take the remote to the store and and see if it works on their Sharp TV like yours. If that fails contact Sharp support for a replacement. (1.800.BE.SHARP)

The remote control has simply stopped working! The batteries have been changed! Nothing on the remote is accepted by the TV. There is no response, not even a flicker from the TV.

Hi there,

Try resetting your remote:

* Remove batteries
* Press each button on your remote, twice. (one button at a time). This should discharge any current left in the capacitors.
* Insert fresh batteries.

If the above fails, then your remote is faulty.

RCR remote is not working! Randomly stopped working

These have tiny fuses inside that need replacing. Check out sites like Makezine, Instructables and Zedomax for solutions to hack or repair your handset.
Even new batteries fail. Sometimes it can be just the one battery that fails. Get an electronic battery charger that allows you to recharge ordinary batteries or a multimeter to check the current of your batteries. With a multimeter you should be able to check the resistence for any breaks in the PC Board from the battery compartment.

Try prying the metal endings where the batteries touch out a little bit to have a better connection! Has there been a liquid? If all fails you can buy a all in one remote in a computer and electronics store!
