SOURCE: The footpedal socket on my friend's Singer 2000

If it's the plug between the wire coming out of the sewing machine and the foot pedal, then no problem. I have a machine with a wonky connection there, too. Kept thinking about replacing the plugs with something more up to date; never thought about just taking them out of the lineup completely. Thanks!

The cord to my footpedal only works in specific positions. Can I get just a new cord or do I need an entire new pedal?

you should be able to fix it yourself. Make sure the machine is unplugged from the wall socket. With the foot peddle upside down on a flat surfice, using a flat head screw driver, try prying open the foot peddle. Once open inspect the wires, one might be loose or disconnected and hardly touching the leads. Secure them if they are loose or reconnect them if unconnected. Close the foot peddle, plug in machine and try the foot peddle.

I hope this helps and saves you money on buying a new one.

I used the machine yesterday. When I went to sew somthign else, the light went on but when I went to pust the foot control I get nothing. I have cleaned the inside and it has been unpluged since last...

Check to see if the cord leading from the footpedal to the machine is loose or frayed? You might have accidently loosed it when you were cleaning your machine.

The footpedal socket on my friend's Singer 2000

The foot pedal usually is a speed controller too, It is NOT a simple On Off, switch. You could no doubt wire another sort of controller to it though, they are all pretty much the same. In saying that though, SOME are just an On/Off foot switch well in this case YES you could do as you want. But it is unlikely you have one of those sorts. The controller is a Rheostat if you are handy enough I am sure one could wire another sort of rheostat to this machine safely. I have heard of the speed controllers from mains powered Drills being used in a pinch, the trick is to wire it up to the foot pedal.

I lost my footpedal for my excel janome sewing machine. Would a pedal foot from a 685 and 687 fit

If the fitting on the plug is the same as your machine it should be okay but check with your machine shop to be sure.

Foot pedal won't run evenly. starts and stops

Hi, thjere are carbon contacts inside your footpedal and if your lucky they are just dirty and need to be cleaned (use a pencil eraser). Or they may need to be replaced. Its not that easy to take these pedals apart without direction. Feel free to contact me off list and I can help better.
