Swissgear rechargable lantern won't light up, even though the green led light indicates it is fully charged

There are several different models of the Swiss Gear rechargeable lantern. On most though, you can remove the top portion of the lantern and check the lighting element inside. In most cases the elements can be removed and replaced. I have a dual filament lantern and from experience I know that every so often you may have to go buy a replacement light piece. If the lantern has been bumped or even just strapped to the outside of the pack while walking, it's possible for those elements to become loose and need repositioning or replacement so do check that. I'm sure that it should be unlikely your charger is malfunctioning unless you left it plugged in for some very extended period of time, in which case I would say the light would be more likely to burn out. But definitely try that and if that doesn't work the battery pack on the lantern itself may have an issue in which case you can always get a replacement.

Should I use an electrical or propane lantern for camping?

I suggest propane or gas because they are cheap to operate and you are given the option of dimming, which is something you can't do with most electric lanterns.

Can I use a lantern as a Bunsen burner?

No! It is not meant for that purpose and could cause major damage. You should only use lanterns as directed.

I have a GE battery powered (4 D cells) camping lantern. It will not turn on. The batteries are new and have been tested. Is there a way to remove the fluorescent and check?

Fluorescent lamps need a high voltage in order to ionise the gas inside and make them light up..Torch batteries will not produce enough voltage alone so the battery voltage is boosted by an inverter that is incorporated into the torch or lamp body.

It is unfortunate but the majority of such lamp inverters use the cheapest, nastiest, flimsiest circuitry it is possible to use in such things and having taken a few lamps and torches (of respectable brands) apart and seen such things I find it easy to imagine they were thrown together in a far eastern handbag factory when there was a world slump in handbag sales.

When working correctly the inverter produces a voltage high enough to really surprise anyone touching the wrong parts but they do tend to be unreliable due to the usually low quality.
A handy person could conceivably persuade such a lantern to dismantle and check the switch and wiring and ensure the battery voltage is reaching the inverter but it would need electronic experiece to venture further into the reasons why it stopped working.

A replacement tube could be tried but they fail rarely and rarely do they operate long enough to actually wear out so buying a new tube is likely to be wasted money.

In reference to the Coleman Lantern/fan/radio #841-321 .....where is the battery compartment located? where can I purchase an adapter since this one is missing?

Type this URL in the box- http://www.fixya.com/support/t955738-coleman_lantern_fan_am_fm_radio. As for the adapter, you should probably check the camping section or electronics section of Wal-Mart or, you can call customer support for Coleman. Their phone number is 1-800-835-3278. Ebay, Amazon or other online shopping companies might have the adapter in stock. Hope this helps.
