Yes, most have a Humidistat which senses the moisture in the air and cuts in and out as needed. This sort of says that it does.
Runtime is calculated based on using cool water and setting the mist level between the low and medium settings. Based on the natural humidity level in your home, the temperature of water you use, and the mist level setting you choose, you may experience longer or shorter run times.
Check the float that is monitoring the water level. Sometimes lime and calcium build up will restrict the motion of the float. If it's a probe level, check to make sure there is no hard water build up on the probes that will restrict continuity from one probe to the other
In the bottom of the humidifier is a little disk that vibrates to turn water to vapor. This gets covered in mineral deposits and won't vibrate properly. They usually suggest something like vinegar to clean it. I found that this didn't work for me. What did work was cleaning it with my Waterpic on the highest setting. It chipped away the deposits and allowed it to work. HOWEVER, once you get it running again, buy the slant fin mineral absorption pads to keep it running. If you have mineral-rich water like me, you'll go through them quickly, but you also won't have white deposits on your walls anymore.
I had the same problem. Looked up the manual online. Red light indicates water level is low I had just refilled the tank so that was not the problem but manual said to make sure water tank was firmly, securely seated on base. I unplugged the unit, unscrewed the plug on the tank and screwed it back on and then made sure the tank was securely seated on the base, plugged it in and it started working. If the tank is full you may just have to make sure the tank is fitting properly in the base.
Follow the provided web link. Select from the appropriate category of humidifiers by Essickair, then click on the "More Info" link after which you should choose the specific model humidifier that you own. After doing so you will find a link to the lower right(under "Resources") saying "Owners Manual." Clicking that Owners Manual link will allow you to open and/or save your humidifiers manual.
