Question about Canon VIXIA HV30 DV Camcorder

Cannot transfer video from my Canon Vixia HV30 to my Dell Desktop

I have an older Dell computer and I am unable to transfer my videos to the computer. I recently installed a firewire port to the computer and according to Dell support the port is working fine. However when attempting to transfer the video I am getting no response from my computer, I have installed the recommended codec that was listed in a prior solution to another person's similar priblem, but I still get nothing on my computer. I have a feeling that for whatever reason my computer is not compatible with the camcorder or with HDV video. Are there any suggestions for what I am doing wrong? Or is there something else I need to install for my computer to recognize the video or camera?

If you have RCA outputs in your camcorder , you could use a digital convertor
that plugs into your USB ports , they are usually less
than 20$ , Will convert Component (RCA Plugs) to
digital and into your PC by way of a USB Plug.

It could be the firewire port issue on the camera side.

This Camcorder does not support USB streaming with the Windows 7 Operating System. Use an i.LINK cable to transfer the video to the Computer. The i.LINK port is also called IEEE 1394 or Firewire port. You can use any video capturing software like Windows Movie Maker to transfer the video from the Camcorder to the Computer. The Firewire to USB cable won't work with your camcorder, you will always end up with this error.
Click the link below for the instruction to transfer the video to the Computer using i.LINK cable.

You Sony vaio laptop doesn't have firewire ports ,in this case you will need to purchase and install an firewire card ..>>

If you are using a Windows XP Operating System then you have to install the USB Streaming Driver in the Computer from the supplied Software disk with the Computer.
Check this Link for the instruction to transfer video to a Computer using USB Streaming.

I want to capture video from DS65 to my laptop through USB

Hi,
To transfer video from your camcorder to your computer you will need a firewire cable (IEEE 1394). Only with this cable you will be able to transfer video.

Please note that you will also need a firewire port on your computer. if you don't have one then you can buy a firewire PCI card from your local copmuter shop.

After you have installed your firewire port and connected your camera, you will need a video processing system. Windows Movie Maker is on Windows XP and it comes for free. Run it, and click on capture to begin the transfer of your video to your laptop.

Please see the following link for more info and pictures on firewire cables and ports.

Unable to transfer video information onto PC ACER ASPIRE using windows Vista for editing by windows movie maker. Interface on PC is via USB. If software driver for firewire or 1394 interface is available...

If you want to use the USB cable to connect the Camcorder to the Computer to transfer the video to the Computer then:

(Applicable for Vista Operating System Only.)

This Camcorder does not support USB streaming with the VISTA Operating System. Use an i.LINK cable to transfer the video to the Computer. The i.LINK port is also called IEEE 1394 or Firewire port. (An i.LINK is a black D shaped connector with 4 or 6 pins. The type of cable to be used will depend on the i.LINK port of your Computer. The Sony Camcorder will have the 4 pin i.LINK cable and if the computer has the 6 pin i.LINK port, then you may have to use the 4 pin to 6 pin i.LINK Cable).

You can use any video capturing software like Windows Movie Maker to transfer the video from the Camcorder to the Computer.

Refer this Link for the instruction to transfer the video to the Computer using i.LINK cable.

http://www.kb.sony.com/selfservice/documentLink.do?externalId=C111893

NOTE: As the Camcorder does not support USB streaming with Vista, it is not required to use any Sony Device Driver to transfer the video to the Computer. You do not require any Drivers or Software from Sony to transfer the video from the Camcorder to the Computer using the i.LINK/Firewire interface.

Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cant find port on my Dell Computer for firewire data transfer

Hello margaret
I hate to be the one to tell you this but most Dell's do not have a firewire port unless you requested it to have one when you purchased it.

Below is a picture of what the opening of a firewire port looks like:
If you cannot find one of these, I'm sorry to say you don't have the necessary port.

You can buy a daughter board to put in your Dell that will give you firewire ports

Here is a link from eBay with some:
http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=p3907.m38.l1313&_nkw=firewire+PCI+cards&_sacat=See-All-Categories

And one from best buy:

If you do decide to buy one of these, please comment on this post or re-post as "Help with installing a firewire PCI card in my Dell" and I, or someone else capable, will gladly help you.

Hope this helps

Transfer video from tape to computer

mjtlj:

You will need a firewire cable to successfully transfer video from your tape to your computer. It also greatly helps to have a firewire port on your computer. Once you have connected your firewire port on your camera to the firewire port on your computer, you can use windows movie maker to transfer video to your computer. (File > Import for Digital Video Camera)

If this has helped you, please report this problem as fixed :)
