Had this problem also when I rebooted my Time Warner Cable box. Unplug everything from the wall including power strip and wait 60 seconds then plug back in and turn everything back on. Worked for me and havent had a problem since. Time Warner does not know what causes this yet.

Sorry to lay some bad news on you.........
It sounds like your set has had defective silk screening during the manufacturing process.
The lines in a plasma set are laid out using a silk screen process, the defects (if any) are burned out by laser, then the surface is sealed to protect the lines with a vacuum coating process. Your set sounds like it had a manufacturing defect that quality control somehow missed...it happens!
The good news is that since your set is brand new, you should be able to exchange it. Don't delay!

seems you have found the PiP (Picture in Picture) if you still have the orignal remote press the pip button or the cancel button
