TV won't power up after surge

Try this: unplug the set and wait about 10 or 20 minutes. This is to make sure that the main power supply filter caps completely discharge. Look on the power supply board, close to where the AC cord attaches to the board. Look for a white resistor labeled "0.1 OHM" (the symbol for OHM, like an upside-down U) and measure it with your ohm meter. If it is open then your switching transistors in the main power supply are most certainly shorted. Older sets had 2 separate transistors on little heat sinks labeled "C4834", then they switched to 2 transistors in one package labeled "MX0841" or "MX0842", and then some sets went to two separate MOSFET transistors. Measure those parts and post your results and we will guide you from there.

Sony Bravia KDL-55nx720 My tv is stuck in standby mode. Blinking twice.. Would replacing the power supply possibly fix this problem? Please help.

Normally yes. Blinking twice is power protection trip. Look first for open resistor, broken fuses (and short circuits or broken transistors / ICS if thats the case).

I turn the power on, but it keeps shutting off. The standby light is pulsing two times if that helps any. Thanks

Hello
Two blinks of standby light in Sony sets denotes that there is some short circuit inside the circuit board. It could be with a shorted capacitor, shorted horizontal output transistor or defective Line Output Trnasformer otherwise known as [LOT]. To determine it you have to open the TV. You must have a concept of soldering and more confidence. LOT described above can be located on the mainboard itself. One wire from it goes to the top side of the picture tube's final anode, and seem to be sticked to it with a rubber ******. That is [LOT]. Very near to that LOT you can locate the horozontal output transistor stated above, screwed onto a metal heatsink. You just resolder it out from the board, and check it for collector to emitter leak. It is best to replace it with a new one of same type and number. Insist on same type and number, since it is a critical component. After replacing it, just switch on the TV for a few seconds, say four or five, and switch it off, unplug it from wall socket and feel the heat of that trasistor with bare fingers. If it overheats, it is a sure symptom of LOT fault. You have to replace the LOT also with same type and number. Before replacing the above said components, you just resolder the transistor said above, and just switch on the set without it. If the sytandby LED lights for the same number of time, there may be any shorted capacitor in the main secondary supply rail; usually 130VDC, LOT power supply. There is a EHT boosting capacitor fitted very near to the transistor said above, at about 470Pf; ceramic or so. There is a chance that this capacitor may get shorted. Anyway, your TVs secondary power supply rail has a short. Two blinks of standby light denotes Over Current Protection [OCP]. It is a self diaganosis process going inside the the TV, and every Sony set has the same fuction. Ok
Take every precaution before you open the TV. Mind that you are going to work with an electrical equipment, which has as high as 26,000VDC points are inside it. Keep chlidren away from you while you are working. Not even allow them to come nearby you, and let an adult beside you as a precautionary measure. Ok

Sound, no picture, Red LED 4 flashes

Hello Thanshar, Hi, you TV has sound, but no picture. this could be several things, and let us add the red led flash. In my analysis, no picture means no high voltage is reaching the picture tube. this could be due to a bad Horizontal output transistor, and/or a bad flyback transformer. This bad transistor is causing an overload to the power supply section, causing the 4 led flash to blink. Now i want to know if you want to do this service or get professional help. if you decide to do this by yourself, this needs to be performed: the Horizontal output transistor must be checked for short, the horizontal flyback transformer needs to be tested, the deflection yoke also needs to be checked, especially to horizontal coil.

Kvg21q1 no picture no sound and led not standby power on........

Hi,

That's correct. As you have no picture and no sound, you need to replace flyback and power transistor.

What i would advise you that you can purchase the flyback and Horizontal output resistor online and you can also fix it yourself. That would help you save certain bucks.

Any further help, let me know.

Thanks for using Fixya.
