In stop mode, press "finalize" (last button in the top row of buttons), then press "play" (center button in the lower row of buttons).

Perhaps the turntable requires a pre-amp. If the receiver has a "phono" input, that's the one you should use. If no "phono" input, use an "aux" with a pre-amp.
