Two things come to mind.

Get some groove-lock grips on that blade and pull the blade down so it isn't binding on the channel.

Undo the screws at the handle end and turn the armature backwards by hand to pull the shaft back into the body.

The shaft rusted and does not hold the blade; how do I remove the rubber cowling to repair / replace the shaft?

Remove the 2 torx screws that hold the foot on the front of the tool - the boot will slide right off with the blade release lever.
DeWalt makes a shaft upgrade kit that is fairly easy to install.

How do i change blade on dewalt dw303 reciprocating saw

Open the yellow tab on the side of the blade guard and lift the blade out. Install a new on and close the tab. If the blade has been damaged, it may need to be pried off the locating pin at the attachment point.

I have a circular saw that is locked and the blade won't rotate its brand new how do you free the blade?

Its sounds like the blade lock button is depressed.
looking from the rear of the unit, you should see a button between the left side of the handle and behind the blade shield.
check that. it probably is locked in the depressed position or it may be damaged.

I hope this helps.

Blade not releasing

Getting a broken blade our of the sawzall chuck can be difficult and require some ingenuity and patience...
Sometimes there be enough blade left so that you can grab it with a needle nose pliers... othertimes it is flush and that makes it more difficult... holding the chuck in the release position and rapping the saw against a table or with a hammer can jiggle the piece out....of course you have the chuck pointed down while you do that...
Also moving the piece around a bit with a stiff wire and also soaking the chuck and blade with WD-40 helps also....
Usually it will take a combination of these things and some persistance to get the job done...

Change blade on Dewalt DC385 XRP reciprocating saw

The button is for changing the shoe position, you should find a lever on the opposite side that you need to lift up on to release the blade. You might be able to get a owners manual at and in the middle of the page towards the bottom type in your model number and it will direct you how to download one. Let me know if you need more help
