If it doesn't light after holding it 2 full minutes, you need a gas service engineer to install a new thermocouple. It is a safety device.

SOURCE: Unable To Keep Pilot Light Lit!

I have a Williams top vent gravity wall furnace (model 5009622) and I had the same problem. I had to take the cover off the furnace -- screw on top and two at the bottom (open the access door and there is one screw on each side) to get to the reset button for the vent safety shutoff system. On my furnace it's on the left side toward the top of the unit. I pressed the little red reset button and it's been working ever since. If your furnace is properly installed and doesn't have bird's nest in the chimney, it should work fine. Good luck!

SOURCE: pilot lite will not stay lite

You need to change the thermocouple on the unit.

First check to see if the flame is hitting the thermocouple when the flame is on when you hold down the button. If it is then remove the the thermocouple and replace with the same size. You should be able to pick one up at your local hardware store.

If when you replace the thermocouple the flame does not stay lit still you may have a bad gas valve.
Hope this helps and please rate this!

SOURCE: pilot light wont stay lit

You need to replace the pilot safety switch which is usually a Thermocouple. It is connected by a thin tube from the gas valve to a bulb near the pilot burner. It should be available at Home Depot or online.

My heat won't come on.

Newer furnaces do not have a pilot light. If yours does, you will have to relight it. Find the gas valve inside the furnace and follow the lighting directions. Generally, you turn the valve to the pilot position, press a button and hold it while you light the pilot. Hold it for about a minute and then release. If the pilot stays lit, then you can go ahead and set the thermostat to call for heat. If it does not stay lit, or the furnace still will not light, I think you need to call a repairmen or someone with knowledge of how to troubleshoot the problem.

Furnace Pilot Light Won't Stay Lit

Here is something similar that happened to me. I went through the same steps you went through and upon closer inspection, I found a spider had made a web inside the supply line only letting a small trickle of gas through. Have you verified there is nothing blocking the line?

When I tried to light my furnace, the electrical wires from the thermostat don't spark all the time, therefore my furnace won't stay lighted. What can I do to fix this?

Is this an older furnace where you have a pilot light? Are you saying the pilot light will not stay lit? If thats the case then likely you need a new thermal couple. That is what the pilot light keeps hot while it stays lit. It is a safety device that is there so your furnace will not come on if there is no pilot light present. Very common. Hardware store item. Need Furnace's make and model #'s.
If this is an electronically controlled furnace, you will need a service call.

Pilot won't stay lit on furnace

Is that pilot automatic? If so then a quick easy fix for this is to located the sensor and replace it or clean it up with sand paper. After ignition the control is looking for verification of ignition from that sensor. How to videos

Pilot wont light

If the pilot light goes out when you release the primer, then the thermocouple is bad.You can try to adjust the thermocouple,if it can be.It needs to be in the pilot flame. If the thermocouple is not in the flame,it will not stay lit.If you can not get the pilot to light at all, with the primer pushed down, then replace the regulator. To light the pilot light, you need to turn the dial to pilot. Then press the primer button down and hold it.The primer is either built into the turn knob,or it is a res button.Hold the primer down, and light the pilot, continue holding the primer down for at least 40 seconds. Then release the primer slowly, and if the pilot light starts to get weak, and try to go out, then push back down, and hold 30 seconds more. After the pilot stays lit, turn the knob to furnace or low,or whatever the directions say.
