When I turn it on it just sa Us passwordh

This is the user password screen ..and you have to insert the user password..and boot up ..It maybe that the screen was enabled but you have no password set ..and in this case it will boot further if you just click on the user and hit enter without inserting any password..
If you do not remember setting a password it may be the case that somebody else set it ..and you have to ask all persons that have access to the computer ..
If it is the case with the screen only but no password..the screen itself can be disabled if you get to control panel ../user accounts ..and select the change way users log ..and select use the welcome screen ..and apply ..The next time will be gone ..and will start directly suing teh welcome screen ..
If there is a password and you can not get it right ..and have no access in the windows at all ..you need to reinstall the operation system from scratch using either the recovery partition . disk . or a boot-able operation system disk ..
If you know the password just get to user accounts in control panel ..and disable the password..and after that disable the user screen and select to use the welcome screen ..and this will be all .
let me know if I didn't covered all the questions you might have ..and I will further assist you ..be more specific in your questions so I can understand exactly what is the issue ..
have a nice day !

  • Welcome alexisdenton, thanks for using Fix' Ya. These instructions will help you restore your computer back to the Factory Settings or Out of Box," as if you just bought it. 1. The first thing you want to do is; "Back up any important "Data" that you may have on the computer. Have CDs or DVDs to do so. 2. Next, is to "Restart the computer; once the computer begins to "Boot Up!" 3. "Do the followin; this may take some timing." You will notice that there will be wording, a prompt, at the bottom of the "Screen" Press F2, and Press F12, it may differ on your computer, once you see this on the screen, quickly press, tap the[DEL]key, located at the top [Right]next to the Scroll Lock, and END keys." 4. "Remember as I said before it may take some timing. You will know if you done it correctly, when you see the {Windows Boot Manager} Heading on the screen; at the bottom of the screen, it will read "Recovery Environment." Note: The wording may differ depending on the type & model computer you have, "just keep in mind that you want to "Restore the Computer back to Factory Settings". 5. Now, there will be a long list of "Options" to choose from, select the option that best describes; "Repair your Computer." In the next [Systems Recovery] windows, you will have to "Enter" (Location, Password...), follow the instructions. 6. Next, choose the box that best describes, the Recovery Wizard: "This will have a notice that read; Restores your "System back to Factory Settings, or Out of Box! Note: There will be all types of "Warnings!" Read carefully, before continuing. Attention: "Once the Recovery begins, Do Not Touch the computer, for any reason at all!" The whole recovery can take up to (4 Hours), the computer will "SHUTDOWN & RESTART several times, several! 7. So until you see the LOGIN" screen, Do Not Touch the computer. "This is a lot of work, so I'm sure you find a thankful moment to give a "Helpful Rating, I appreciate it! Thanks, and take your time, paul7of9"

Error before welcome screen, double picture in welcome screen, hang after welcomescreen

If your monitor is showing weird colors before the Windows XP welcome screen then it might be that your monitor is bad. Try hooking up a different monitor and see if the colors look fine as the computer is booting up, if it does then you know the original monitor is bad, if the colors still look weird then you know your video card is going bad.

As far as the lockups are concerned, with the computer turned off, take out the memory. With a can of air, blow some on the contacts of the memory and into the memory slots on the motherboard. You want to do this to make sure that there is no dust or dirt cause that can cause lockups to happen.

If you need more help, just let me know.

Windows XP won't load past the 'user account welcome screen'.

If you boot into safe mode* and have same problem, you might be missing a file called "userinit.exe."
It's located in the /WINDOWS/SYSTEM32 subdirectory. You can copy it from another xp computer
(suggest matching updated pro vs home files). Use your harddrive as a slave on another computer
if necessary.

*safe mode: Restart your computer and start pressing the F8 key on your keyboard during boot up.

Then you gotta ask: how did that file get deleted? It's a popular file to attack by malware authors and
some anti-virus software will delete it as part of an infection cleansing.

Start Menu Picture Disappeared Suddenly

Turn the Welcome screen on or off It sounds as if you accidentally turned off the welcome screen. Here's how to turn that function on and off:

To turn the Welcome screen on or off
You must have a computer administrator account on a computer that is a member of a workgroup or is a stand-alone computer to turn on or turn off the Use the Welcome screen feature. Logging on at the Welcome screen is not available on computers that are members of a network domain.
  1. Open shortcutcold.gifUser Accounts in Control Panel.
  2. Click Change the way users log on or off.
  3. Do one of the following:
    • To specify that users log on to the computer using the Welcome screen, select the Use the Welcome screen check box. A user logs on to the computer by clicking his or her user account name on the Welcome screen. If a password is assigned to the account, the user is prompted to type it.
    • To specify that users log on to the computer without using the Welcome screen, clear the Use the Welcome screen check box. The Welcome screen will no longer appear when you start the computer. To log on to the computer, type your user name (and password, if you have one) in the standard Log On to Windows dialog box.
note.gif Notes
  • To open User Accounts, click Start, click Control Panel, and then click User Accounts.
  • Fast User Switching is available only when the Welcome screen is turned on. For more information, click Related Topics.
I hope this helps. Please let me know if you require further assistance.
