Connecting Android to your PC
I am sure this has come up various times, especially with people new to Android. Yes, you can use your phone and SD card as external storage on your computer, but it does involve a couple of simple steps. This is for XP, but I can assume that this should work for Vista and 7 as well.
First, when you connect your Android phone to your computer, it will respond saying that it has found new hardware. It may even ask you if you want to search for drivers. You DO NOT need to worry about these drivers. And do not be concerned if the computer says that your hardware may not work properly.
Second, you need to go to the notification screen on your phone. This is the screen you pull down from the top, and it can show you things like missed calls, installed apps, and for this purpose, if your phone is connected to your computer via USB. Push on USB Connected, and a dialog box will appear. Push Mount and now your computer will recognize your phone as an external storage device, just like a flash drive.
When you are finished with your phone and SD card, you will need to do one more step before unplugging your phone. Go back to your notification screen, and this time, select Turn off USB storage. Again, a dialog box will appear, and push Turn off. This will disconnect your phone from your computer, and you can now unplug your phone. This step is just like disconnecting a flash drive from your computer.
