1999 Yamaha XVS 1100 Custom. rectifier blew out. Need rectifier and wiring harness as the connection melted at the rectifier connection. Harness is discontinued by mfg.

Hi, Rick you may have to fabricate your own sub wiring harness to the rectifier for this situation I would call my local dealer or reputable shop's service/parts department and inquire about any possible quick fix, answers, or parts inquiry. I have a troy bilt 10hp 26" snow blower and my problem is I keep blowing light bulbs . I've looked at the wiring diagram and would like to know where you find the Dioder/Rectifier at? Please help.

The rectifier should be on the engine either on the recoil housing or just beneath it. You should be able to follow the wiring back from the lighting system to get you close to it. Be safe and good luck!

Let it run in safe mode and then shut down. Hopefully any damaged files will have been rebuilt.

Sometimes its running about 12 volts an then it will drop to 10 then i'm stranded! its a new batterie should i ck all my grounds?

You didn't mention the year of the bike. 12V means your battery isn't charging. If you have a regulator check the voltage at the gen terminal. If it is more than 12V, the regulator is bad. If you have a bike that's equipped with an alternator, check the voltage coming out from the rectifier (DCVolts) and the voltage (AC volts) going into the rectifier. You should have more than 12V coming out and somewhere around 14VAC going into the rectifier. Good luck and safe riding.

I have a PLMZ169GCC bought Nov 2007. IT won't run. Any ideas?

Usually either the rectifier or the capacitor fails which causes the main fuse to blow.

The rectifier is item F1 and the capacitor is item F2 of this link:
http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=5162082

After grounding across the capacitor terminals at least 3 times
you check the rectifier by disconnecting one lead and use a meter to read across the rectifier. It will read continuity in one direction and open in the other direction. The capacitor should make a meter indication jump each time you reverse the leads. No jump of the meter after reversing the leads or a ground from cap terminals to the case = bad cap. There is also a thermal cut out that can cause the problem.
This unit uses a switch / fuse kit item F9 of link for replacement parts. Check the fuse also.

Thanks for choosing FixYa.

Replace regulator/rectifier with a different brand?

Not always necessary to change the regulator/rectifier. Check all connections to make sure they are clean, use a good contact cleaner and finish off with dielectric grease on your electrical connections.
When some bikes get a few years on them the connections get dirty. Check to see if there are any burned or discolored wires anywhere around the regulator. The FIX on some bikes is to cut the connector completely out and solder the wires together and either seal them with heat shrink of a good electrical tape. Loose or bad connections get hot. As long as the regulator and rectifier are working there is no need to replace them if the connections are good.
