SOURCE: can I reset the lamp timer without the original remote

No, original remote is needed for this--a universal will not cut it.

If Panasonic the remotes are usually reasonably priced and have all the features you really need.

Trying to replace lamp in HDTV and having trouble. Does not function correctly after putting in new bulb. Boots up and then visuals go black and the green power light keeps flashing. Help?

Panasonic DLP TV Bulbs

Make sure its an original Osram or Philips bulb inside the housing. If its a cheap lamp it will act this way. If it is an original lamp, then you may have a power supply issue. It shouldn't affect your TV but you may want to try resetting the lamp timer by following the instructions that came with the lamp.

While pressing the VOL- button on the projection display, hold down the number 0 button on the remote control at the same time for more than 5 seconds.

How do i remove the black box on my screen

don't have the original remote control, I used the time warner control, I just reprogramed to control my tv without the cable box, I put the volume all the way up in the tv, then down to zero, and at the same time I hold the 0 key in the remote control, after that the screen said lamp has been reset to zero, I repeated this step because a lamp red light stayed on, after this only the power green light only stays, when installing the new lamp make sure is all the way in, you can use the white out to mark exactly where you have to push or put in the new lamp, it may not been all the way in, hope this help someone !!

You mean physically replace the lamp or reset the lamp timer?

To replace the lamp, you unplug the TV, take the front cover off of the TV under the screen, open the little door, unscrew a screw, then pull a handle that will pull out the entire lamp assembly.

Shove the new lamp assembly in place, reattach the screw, shut the door, snap the panel back on, and fire it up.

To reset the lamp timer you have to have your TV remote (not a universal - the original remote). Turn the TV on and wait for the lamp timer reset message to disappear or push Exit on the remote (or any button similar to exit, depending on the model).

Then, simultaneously press and hold the VOL- button on the TV and the PIP button on the remote at the same time (usually near the bottom left of the remote). On some models it is the SPLIT button instead.

IRT the other answer, there are more than one type of rear projection television. The one's you have seen with three lamps are CRT-based and have one CRT for each primary color of red, green, and blue. Panasonic no longer makes these and any issues with the lamps must be referred to an authorized servicer. Therefore, I conclude in this case that the question is in reference to a DLP or LCD rear projection display.

Reseting The Projection Lamp Hours Meter

If you need the original remote, you can order the original Panasonic replacement remote control for this model (PT-50LC14) from a major Panasonic parts distributor at the link below:

Sometimes there's a way to reset the counter by mashing certain keys on the TV itself in a sequence, but if your owner's manual doesn't specify this option, then you may have to get the original replacement remote to be able to reset it.

Plug the power cord back into the properly grounded wall outlet. Then press the POWER button on the projection display or the remote control to turn the power on.

2. While pressing the VOL- button on the projection display, hold down the PIP or SPLIT button on the remote control simultaneosly for more than 5 seconds.

3. Whe the lamp time reset procedure is complete, the screen will display "LAMP TIME WAS RESET TO 0." When the lamp time is reset, the LAMP indicator will go out

Lamp Replacement

take the panel off of the bottom front of the TV - under the screen almost at the floor - with your hands. unscrew the screw on the caution statement and open the panel. you'll see a handle and another screw to the right of it - loosen that screw (it doesn't come all the way out - or shouldn't, anyway). slowly pull the handle until the lamp comes out - if there is busted glass, clear that out. Slide the other lamp inside the television the same way and power back up.

This should work, however - there are a couple of things to cover:

-If you ordered the lamp from Panasonic it would have come already in the assembly. If you ordered it elsewhere it may just be the bulb. If that's the case, you will need to assemble it yourself of have someone do it for you. You do not want to get oil or fingerprints on the bulb as this will significantly reduce it's lifespan.

-You may want to reset the lamp timer in the television once you get the new lamp inserted. First you have to have the television powered on and no messages or menus on-screen from the TV. Then use the original remote and take it to the television, make sure it's in TV mode and aimed at the IR sensor. Then, press and hold VOL- on the TV itself and PIP on the remote at the same time for 5 to 10 seconds. You should get a message that says "lamp time was reset to 0".
