Uneven black border showing up on scanned documents

Most scanners scan the whole "bed" not just the document lying on it. Where no part of the document covers the bed usually appears as black.

Normally when scanning you are offered and option whether to scan the whole document or a portion thereof. When previewed, a dotted line appears around the portion the scanner thinks you want, you have to re-arrange that box so that it lies just within the part or the document you require.

Should this not resolve the issue the menu options on
the left hand side of the Xerox web page should guide you to a resolution.

Scans wrong size...only scan a portion or smaller "window" of document

Normally these scanner have a prescan window whcih shows the image that is being scanned. Only the selected area will be bright and the rest little shaded. You need to expand the selection, by dragging the line (dashes running along the border). Select default option in the software setting, if in doubt.

    Scanner only scans black

try cleaning the scanner glass(both on the scan bed as well as the scanner glass on the automativ document feeder).then you can align thye printer from the front panel menus...if it stll does not work then You can try a reset on the printer using the # and the number 6,holding them down while plugging in the power cord at the back of the printer.if it still does not work then you can try the same with the # and the number 9.If it still does not work, get your printer serviced.

Scanning photos into computer at a large size?!

This sounds like you are trying to scan images at a larger size than they actually are?
I am not an expert-(but I have a Mac)-but from what I'm reading, scan your photos at a 300-600 dpi resolution, then use photo editing software to enlarge them. The higher the resolution, the more disk space and the more photo detail (i.e. cracks, dust, scratches, paper type) will be captured, and the more time it will take to scan. Also, for the white, does your scanner allow you to select the area/define borders during the pre-scan? Mine lets me drag borders to just the image area (but capture the image first, then do the cropping and editing to a copy later).
