Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

1 Answer

I have a macbook and a Brother HL-2040 printer. In systems preferences/printer it shows the icon with a green dot and "idle/default When I try and print a document, the print queue shows: - Printer ready - the document appears and under "status" flashes "printing" and then quickly flips to "stopped" - Hitting "resume" does nothing - I get an error message saying "client error" Share this printer is unchecked I've removed printed, disconnected, reinstalled drivers, then restarted. Printer does print out a test paper when you turn on printer w. Go button depressed.

This doesn't fix it. Printer revs up as if it's going to print, the Ready light flashes green, but then it stops and nothing prints

Go to printer properties under control panel, find "share" setting in the control panel. Enable share printer with network.

After trying to reinstall the printer drivers (on many machines) I
finally installed Apple's Brother printer package that is on the 10.5
DVD. This fixed the problem on each machine that I did it on.

One other piece of info for you though. When it wasn't able to print
and the error message came up (client-error-not-possible) a message
quickly flashed underneath "Printer Ready" that said that there was a
problem reading the raster file. This message only appeared for about 1
second and did so intermittently. Watch out and see if something like
    that happens on your computer.

You need to install the printer drivers:-

From System > Administration > Synaptic Package Manager Search
for Brother mfc-3240c and install the drivers for your printer. You need
to install both the cups and lpr drivers.

Once the drivers are installed open System > Administration >
Printing and select new printer.Cups will then search for your printer
    and should install it.

In the Firefox address bar,puthttp://localhost:631/admin/ and see what cups thinks about your printer.

    Can you see your printer?

Can you change the document type?

Can you print a test page?

What does the error logs say?

What is the IP address for the HL-2040 Brother Laser Printer

Factory default setting for the printer is DHCP (automatically get IP from your router).
If you have it connected you can either use the Brother software to locate it on your network (and set a static IP if you wish), or if you just need the IP, log into your router and view the connected devices.

Brother HL-2035 laser printer, black dots appearing down right side of paper, 3" apart, after changing toner and cleaning wire.

Dots, Lines and smudges on the printouts are due to dirty/ deteriorating cartridge and cleaning the green drum of the cartridge may help temporarily. Take out the cartridge and gently clean the roller/ green drum with a dry, soft, lint-free cloth wiping off the toner dots marks/ lines.
Also, make sure that the visible inside of the printer is clean and ther is no spilled toner inside, which sometimes results in dots.
Let me know if any further clarification/ assistance is required.

Dont forget to appreciate the solution if I could have been of any help!

I connected HL-2040 printer to my DELL (vista OS) and cannot get it to print. tried downloading vista drivers off brother site and still not working...

Try the steps below:

* First, make sure that there are no pending documents on the print queue

1. Go to the Control Panel > Printers
2. Right-click the Brother printer icon > Cancel Pending Documents.
3. Make sure that there's a check right beside the printer icon that shows that the printer is set as the default printer.
4. Right-click on the printer icon again > Properties
5. Click on "Ports" tab > select USB001 Virtual Printer Port.
6. Click on "Apply" and be sure that the printer name would appear right next to the Virtual Printer Port.
7. OK > then go to the "General" tab
8. Click on "Print a Test Page" button.

If same problem occurs, then you need to try uninstalling/re-installing the printer driver. Or call Brother company and check if there's a firmware upgrade for your printer.

Have a great day!

You can't hook up two HL 2040 with 1PC. It will make your PC crazy and don't know which printer should go for printer.
You must remove 1 HL2040. After that you should be fine.

Green ready light on, but will not print

When you refilled the paper, did you load a different size paper? Try this: on your PC, left click on START, then left click on CONTROL PANEL. Next, left click on PRINTERS. Find your BROTHER on the printers page and view the status box. Does it show READY? Are there any DOCUMENTS pending? Left click (you may have to click twice)on the BROTHER icon. The PRINT QUEUE appear, showing any documents waiting to be printed, and their status. If anything is in the queue, cancel all documents so the queue is clear. Next, RIGHT CLICK on the BROTHER icon . On the drop down menu, left click on PRINTING PREFERENCES. Make sure the settings match the paper you have loaded in your machine. If something is not right (Paper size, orientation, etc) the machine will not print. Carefully check all the settings and correct as necessary. To test, first click OK to exit PRINTING PREFERENCES. On the same menu, left click on PROPERTIES. On the GENERAL tab, left click on TEST PAGE button to generate a test print.

Printing mailing list

Sounds to me like the word doc's page size is not set to the same as your printers tray.

In word, file , page set up. page size/paper size is set to "letter" in US I think is standard, it's A4 in Oz

On printer driver check page size setting too

Contral panel, printers and faxs, RIgHT click on brother printer icon, properties, printing preferences, page size
